My Mission

Guitar Lessons Suitable for All Children

I have been playing and teaching the guitar for many years now. In this time I have worked with students of all ages from 5 to 75. I feel comfortable and confident working with all students of any ages but I have a vast amount of experience specifically working with children.

I understand that children learn differently to adult learners and as such I will always adapt my teaching style to try and ensure the lessons are as engaging and fun for my younger students as they can possibly be. I do hold a full and valid Enhanced DBS certificate too which I would be more than to show before our first lesson.

My Lessons

Fun and Informative

Learning any instrument can be a little difficult and frustrating at times so I will always make sure that my lessons for children are provided in a way that keeps learning the guitar broken down in to small and easy to follow stages. I will always emphasize the fun side of learning an instrument in order to help keep the child engaged and enjoying the lessons.

The lessons normally involve learning simple songs such as nursery rhymes and basic tunes to help get them started on playing the guitar. From there we can introduce the basic guitar playing techniques that they will need to grow and develop on their instrument. Learning the guitar can be hugely rewarding and it is my passion to share this skill with others so they can enjoy it too.

My Experience as a Teacher

I have been teaching the guitar now for just over the last 10 years and I am very passionate about what I do. I have worked with students of all ages from 5 to 75 but and do offer lessons to all students, however I mostly teach young beginners. Over the years I have taught in three separate music schools as well as having private students for many years.

Throughout my years of experience I believe I have come up with a way to develop the early stages of learning guitar into a streamlined and fun process. I take a practical approach when teaching guitar and encourage my students to advance by learning their favorite songs. I will always break down the behind the scenes of the songs we are learning and explain what's going on instead of weighing them down with music theory early on.

This approach seems to work particularly well with children in my experience. I believe this is a good way to achieve the right balance of education and fun. The lessons provided can cater for all types of guitar whether that be Acoustic, Electric or the Bass guitar I am happy to teach all of these instruments from beginner up to an intermediate level.

More About My Lessons

There are many benefits to teaching music to younger students and there are many studies which show how important it can be for young learners to study music. One of the things it can do is to help children expand their vocabulary and auditory skills. Music directly affects the childs ability to learn new words and helps them to process the many new sounds they hear.

It has also been proven that when young learners take music lessons it can help them to improve and enhance their memory. In one study musicians out performed non musicians in auditory/visual and memory tests. At the very core of taking music lessons, children are required to have solid hand-eye coordination and practicing on their instrument can drastically help them improve this.

Playing guitar from a young age can help improve the motor skills and development in children. Playing music involves overcoming many different problems and figuring out ways to solve them. As such a childs ability to do this improves the more that they play their instrument. There really is so many benefits to learning music from a young age and I take great pride in offering these skills to my students.

Teacher Tips
What You Will Need

Here is some information on everything you'll need for your child to take an online lesson.

How To Take An Online Lesson

Here is some information to help you get prepared to take your online guitar lessons.

Speed Test, is a very useful tool as having a stable internet connection is one of the most important parts to these lessons. Here you will be able to see what your speeds are and we will only need a speed of 3mbps to have a stable enough connection for the lessons.

As well as a stable internet connection you will need to have access to some kind of electronic device that has a camera on it. This could be things like a laptop, tablet or a smartphone. Many things have cameras on them nowadays so once we have access to one of these you are ready to go.

Once you have a device ready to go, there are many services we can use to connect for the actual lessons. The most common and reliable services tend to be Zoom, Skype or FaceTime for Apple device users. There are other options too so if these don't work for you for any reason please just let me know and we can go through other possible options together.
