Welcome to MusicTeacher.com, my name is Matthew and I am a professional guitar teacher and founder of MusicTeacher.com. My journey started as a guitar teacher based in Leicester in the United Kingdom. In 2009 I relocated to Exeter to attend the University of Exeter and really wanted to continue teaching guitar, but of course, I didn’t know anyone in Exeter when I moved there so I set up www.guitarlessonsexeter.com to generate myself guitar students. By my second year at university I was teaching over 25 hours per week. With more enquiries coming in I started working with a second guitar teacher in Exeter, providing them with the overflow of guitar students to teach.
From this experience, it was clear that there was a demand for music students from private music teachers. Consequently, I launched www.guitarlessonsbelfast.com and www.singinglessonsbristol.co.uk, bringing onboard a guitar and singing teacher to tutor the students coming through in these locations. During 2011 and 2012 this network of teachers slowly expanded across the United Kingdom, with thousands of students taking drum, guitar, piano and singing lessons with teachers that I worked with by 2015.
In 2016 I was honored to win the Entrepreneur of the Year at the Express & Echo Business Awards. This really encouraged me to continue to develop this community of professional music teachers throughout the United Kingdom. To facilitate this I launched the mgrmusic.com teacher database in early 2017 with the aim of creating the most up to date database of active music teachers located throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Between 2017 and 2021 the mgrmusic.com grew rapidly with hundreds of music teachers and thousands of students joining the platform from around the world, far exceeding expectations about teacher and student numbers in the United Kingdom. This international growth prompted the rebrand in 2021 to MusicTeacher.com, better reflecting my personal philosophy that students worldwide have the same goal – to find the perfect music teacher for them.
MusicTeacher.com is now growing faster than ever, both in terms of teachers joining our international teaching community and students who are flocking to the platform to find professional music teachers who have been interviewed and approved prior to joining the platform. We have been very fortunate to be able to work with many organisation within the music sector, including ISM, PMT Music, Blackstar Amps, Orange Amps, Trinity College London, Rockschool and look forward to building new working relationships with new companies in the coming years. Our work often focuses on creating educational content for young and beginner musicians, encouraging them to start their journey learning their chosen instrument.
