Welcome to
My name is David Willis and I'm a professional guitarist and composer based in Stockbridge, Hampshsire. I have a great knowledge of music, live performance, song writing and theory and can use these skills to make sure you learn the music and styles that you enjoy accurately. My lessons are always built around the direction that you want to learn in and we will always make sure you see decent progress over the first few months of taking lessons.
Music is something that you should want to do and it should be enjoyed. My lessons are for those with a keen interest in learning and for those who are willing to put in the practice time to see results. I think that learning guitar can be a very rewarding experience for anyone. My lessons are designed to help you reach your goals and learn songs you never thought were possible before.
We will always work at a pace that suits you and I like to promote enjoyable practice so that it doesn't feel like a chore when you pick up the guitar. Guitar is something that I get unlimited enjoyment from and I really hope that I can pass this passion onto my students regardless of whether you're a seasoned player or a complete beginner. I will always make a lesson plan that suits your style and your future goals.

I'm comfortable teaching both acoustic guitar and electric guitar in a wide range of styles and genres. If you happen to love pop, rock, folk, blues and jazz then I will have you covered. I like to teach through artists that you love and also promote having a decent understanding of theory so that you know what you are playing and why you are playing it. Guitar theory can seem complex but when explained in the correct way, it becomes very easy to understand.
If you want to learn for fun or have specific goals in mind, I will make a plan that helps you achieve those goals. In the past I've taught students that want to learn songs, theory, exams, technique, scales, improvisation, song writing and much more. These are all aspects of guitar playing that I use on a daily basis and I can't wait to help you get to the same level I am and, hopefully, surpass me in the future.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginners and advanced players to take my lessons because I will make a lesson plan that is suited and based around your playing style and level. I will always make sure you learn at a pace that suits your ability level.
I’ve played the guitar since I was fourteen years old, inspired by my uncle and cousin who both played in popular bands. I have always been a lover of many genres of music and play anything from pop, rock, folk, blues and jazz.
I toured and played for various bands over the years from my early London days in clubs e.g. The Marquee, Ronnie Scott’s, Rock Garden, and Dingwalls etc., abroad in Spain and now in local Hampshire venues with my four-piece band The China Wolf Band. I have also done session recording work and production for various artists.
I taught children in Spain and enjoyed seeing the results fairly quickly from no knowledge at all to being able to play and gain musicality very quickly. Recently, I have taught guitar locally on a one-to-one basis to students of ages ranging from 19 to 55. For me, passing on my years of guitar knowledge and skills is very satisfying.
In the first lesson, I make it as friendly and comfortable as possible, initially finding out what the pupil’s level is, i.e. whether a complete beginner or has some knowledge and experience. We begin with some basic chord shapes eventually deciding to work on a song they might like to learn. With me being a left-handed player, it sometimes makes it easier for some students as it creates a mirror image situation.
In summary, I would say my overall teaching method is relaxed, friendly, patient and ultimately professional. One student recently remarked that he had learnt more in one hour from me than several years on the Internet.
As mentioned, student ages recently so far have been 19-55. Any age is acceptable. In Spain, I taught children of seven years upwards. My approach is not very different for any age but for minors, it might be more appropriate to teach at their home than invite to my studio.
