Hello! I'm Phil Johnson, a professional guitar teacher based in Milpitas. I offer students of all ages the chance to unlock their guitar playing potential. I've worked with guitar players of all levels and continue to do so to this day. My lessons are very student focussed and I like to make sure our lessons are built around what you want to learn. Rather than me tell you what to learn, I prefer to hear what your musical preferences are, what your goals are & create a lesson plan that best suits you as a learner and player.

My Mission

Personalized Lessons

I will make every lesson personalized to your tastes and musical preferences to make sure we really get the most out of every lesson. I can teach a wide range of styles including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Metal, Acoustic and more. I like to make sure my students let me know what styles they feel comfortable learning and I will always try my best to accomodate. Our lessons can go in any directiont hat you feel comfortable learning in. Please remember to let me know your preferences when getting in touch.

I offer both acoustic and electric guitar lessons. I feel it is important for players to learn both. It's usually good to start on acoustic because this helps you build your finger strength however, if you're only interested in electric then I would be more than happy to teach you to play electric. I will take you through everything from understanding, chords, songs, song writing, technique, scales and more. During our lessons I will do the best possible job i can to prepare you for life as a guitar player.

I am a music lover and this reflects in my teaching style. I will always teach you a wide range of genres and styles. I like to make sure my students always enjoy their lessons as well as learn in a direction that they feel comfortable with. I like to make sure we learn the styles and genres that you feel comfortable with as well as the music that you both enjoy and love to listen to. My lessons are always created with you in mind and we will always learn at a pace that you feel comfortable with.

I teach a wide range of ages however, I would recommend starting no younger than 8 years old. Over my time as a teacher, I have taught students of all ages and playing levels and I continue to do so. If you want to learn to play guitar then its never to late, I'm confident I can help you improve your playing and technique in no time. If you have a particular issue with your playing then I will always help you improve and learn in a direction in which you can get over these issues. My lessons will focus on using your strengths to help imrpove the weaknesses in your playing.

Prices:

$50 per 1/2 hour

Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.

My Experience as a Teacher

My name is Phil Johnson and I am a professional music artist and songwriter. I have a BA in music from San Jose State University and over 25years of both teaching and performing experience.

More than 400 students have come to me for lessons over the years and I’ve been able to help each one. Professionally, I’ve released 5 CDs and three DVDs and tour nationally.

These are real-world lessons to get you on the fast track to playing music. Beginners are always welcomed. I accept ages 8 and up – that includes adults! I work in a cozy home studio on the border of San Jose and Milpitas (near Landess Ave. and Piedmont Rd.).

I like to make sure my students learn to the highest level. as well as this I like to make sure all of my students develop their own unique playing style over time.

The last and most important point is that I will always make sure every lesson is fun and enjoyable. Students who have fun whilst learning will always see better results than those who don't.
