All Ages and Abilities Welcome Studying music theory is an essential and deeply interesting aspect of every musician's journey. I will tailor my lessons to suit your individual interests, needs and goals. This approach allows you to develop your knowledge quickly and in a way that is enjoyable.
I have experience and proficiency in teaching all music genres, including classical, popular or jazz theory. Whether you have interest in the chord progressions heard on the radio or the melodic structure within Rachmaninoff Concertos, I want to help you learn and develop as a theorist, instrumentalist and musician in general.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginner and advanced students to take my lessons. I will make a lesson plan that suits your needs as a learner and we will work at a pace that suits you.
My undergraduate degree saw me specialising in music theory and composition. Having a deep insight and understanding of how music works has proven invaluable to me and I want to pass on this knowledge.
I have had the privilege of working with complete beginners and those at advanced levels, helping them advance their theory knowledge which progresses them into more developed musicians, whether they're academics, performers or composers. In addition to teaching, I am an active performer and composer in the industry.
I work with fantastic musicians across genres, in particular the jazz and pop scene. My work as a composer allows me to collaborate closely with both artists and those involved in the film industry. My eclectic experience and knowledge is something I bring to all of my lessons. The musical world is diverse and I want all of my students to find their own passion within it.
In addition to welcoming beginner students, I actively encourage those at an intermediate or advanced level to take up music theory lessons. Throughout my years as a music academic, performer and composer I have personally found the benefits of heightened theory knowledge to be huge.
Music is a language and having greater fluency allows you to express yourself further through your craft. Perhaps you're a jazz musician and you've always wondered why Giant Steps by John Coltrane sounds so intriguing? Perhaps you're a composer wondering how to navigate microtonal harmony? Or perhaps you've always found ABRSM grade 5 theory a daunting prospect?
Whatever your situation, I want to help you gain knowledge in the topics that interest you and guide you through your own goals and musical journey. Music theory is an intriguingly exciting subject and all musicians benefit from having a greater understanding of it.
I'm a professional musician and performer who can help you develop your understanding of music thoery and how it works. I will make a lesson plan that works with both your strengths and weaknesses. I'm a professional and I always intend my lessons to reflect this in the best way possible.
