About

About

Hi, I’m Billy, a guitarist from South East London who’s been performing live since I was eighteen. I was trained at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and have over five years of private teaching experience. Having begun as a self-taught musician, I believe it is fundamental for students to first find their passion, as this will provide the necessary motivation to advance. Whether you’ve just got your first guitar, or you wish to build upon your existing skills and advance your playing – I will make sure to tailor my lessons to you.

During your first lesson, I will spend some time discussing your goals on the guitar. With experience teaching young children who have never held an instrument before, all the way to older students with decades of experience who wish to improve their theory and technique, I aim to establish an understanding of why you have sought out guitar lessons, and will demonstrate how he will go about helping you achieve this goal.

While the first lesson partially acts as a ‘get to know you’ session for both of us, I am in regular contact with my students, asking them if there is a particular area they would like to focus on for their next lesson, as well as providing suggestions if the student is unsure.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

With more than seventeen years of playing, over five years experience teaching privately, and two and half years spent in primary schools, I am well versed in teaching both young and old, new and advanced students.

As a versatile musician, I am accomplished in many genres and playing styles, including rock, blues, jazz, metal, funk, disco, country, pop, soul, punk and many more. Having helped students learn their first song, while also helping others improve their improvisation and soloing skills, I am confident and happy to teach students of all ages and abilities.

As a songwriter and performer in my own band, I have performed across the country for many years, showcasing my own compositions. I also have experience working with singer songwriters, function bands and session work.

I have six years of musical education, having studied at Access To Music in Stratford, before studying music at degree level at The Institute of Contemporary Music
Performance in Kilburn, where I achieved First Class Honours.

Billy is an excellent teacher, my 10 year old son enjoys every lesson and is learning how to play really quickly. We find Billy really enthusiastic and friendly and are delighted with our son’s progress.

Billy’s a great teacher. I’d been playing for several years already, and Billy has really helped me understand the guitar and give me the foundations to get to the next level. His lessons have been a total game changer! Billy’s also a great guy and lovely company

“Billy is a great tutor who’s very student focussed. He’s quick to pick up on when I don’t understand something and also quick to pick up on if I’m finding something too basic. I’ve learned more about theory and transferring it to guitar in 2 sessions than I have in 2 months of trawling through YouTube videos and other resources. Very versatile tutor who I look forward to integrating into my long term guitar plans! I’ve been through a couple of tutors previously and Billy has been by far the best.”

“Billy is super informative and helpful every step of the way. He’s beyond patient and makes an effort to base lessons on whatever you actually want to learn, best tutor for guitar available!”

“We had two classes for now and it’s going well so far. Billy has a balanced approach to theory and practice. He also cares about the habits I’m forming and tries hard to push me to a correct form in finger positioning etc. I find his nudges helpful as I feel that kind of things will be harder for me to fix in the future.”

“Been having lessons with Billy for about 8 weeks now, really enjoying them! His style of teaching is very relaxed, fun and friendly but also challenging. He answers any questions I have both during lessons and in between, and is often asking if there’s anything I’d like to be focusing more on, which offers a great balance. Highly recommend!”

“Billy is such a good teacher! I’ve picked up the guitar on and off over the years, but I’ve never stuck it out. Now, it’s been almost a year of classes with Billy and I’m still at it!

Billy has a very relaxed and flexible approach to his teaching style and he’s happy to adjust our classes to suit my specific needs, interests and guitar goals. His tips and tricks have helped me so much, and he has a very comprehensive understanding of music theory which he shares in manageable doses.

Billy also puts in the time to prepare for our classes and creates material that’s unique for me, which I really appreciate. He’s also very attentive to detail and sometimes I can’t believe how he can hear or see little issues I have on the guitar over Skype!

I plan on continuing lessons with Billy and I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher.”
