About Daniel Smith
I am a dedicated musician who specialises in all areas of teaching the guitar. I am a motivated music teacher, having taught guitar since 2010. I am able to convey ideas clearly and provide a structured series of lessons that see my students make progress instantly. I am also aware of the importance of making lessons as entertaining for the students as possible.
I have recently moved to Cwmann, Lampeter in Wales and have plenty of availabilities for students to have in-person lessons in the area. I also offer lessons in an online-learning capacity over Skype, Zoom or FaceTime to students across the UK, and I am continuing to teach a group of students remotely from the Kent area. I currently work for the Ceredigion Music Service on behalf of the Ceredigion County Council – providing guitar, bass and ukulele tuition across the entire county, which I have learned a lot from the experience.
I have a wealth of experience teaching classical guitar, acoustic guitar and electric guitar styles as a peripatetic tutor for many schools in the Kent area between 2016 – 2022. My most recent schools were St. Lawrence College (Ramsgate, Kent) and Dane Court Grammar School (Broadstairs, Kent). References for these schools are available if required.
I also have taught at the following schools and organisations:
Simon Langton Girls Grammar School (Canterbury) – September 2016 – July 2019
Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School (Ramsgate) – September 2016 – July 2019
St. Georges C of E Foundation School (Broadstairs) – May 2017 – July 2019
G4 Guitar School Ashford (Ashford) – August 2017 – October 2018
I have used assembly performances and workshops to allow students to experience all areas of the guitar and other stringed instruments. I have also worked to bring guitar-based ensembles to some of these schools, covering flamenco, classical and rock band groups.
During this time I have worked with children in infant school, through to secondary level. I currently use the following exam syllabuses:
Trinity Classical Guitar
Trinity Rock and Pop
Trinity Acoustic
RGT Acoustic
Rockschool Electric Guitar
ABRSM – Classical Guitar
I also teach from my own collection of resources designed to help students build on their own goals and music tastes. Graded exams are not compulsory in my lessons; I also provide lessons in a more relaxed approach, tackling specific song requests, or goals set by either myself or students.
Outside of graded exams, I specialise in blues and jazz improvisation, advanced rock and metal techniques, and classical guitar notation reading and repertoire to name a few topics.
I have worked in many professional function bands, performing at venues across the UK. In doing so, I have gained a great amount of experience, working with a variety of other musicians in bands that cover all genres of music, which I aim to pass on to all of my students.
Music Qualifications & Achievements:
- Ba (Hons) Commercial Music (Canterbury Christchurch University, Kent)
- A – Level & GCSE Music (Dane Court Grammar School, Kent)
