About

About

My name is Daniel Hyde.

I am a professional pianist, dance accompanist, music-producer, university lecturer, touring musician and recording artist in the U.S. and Europe.

I am a former employee of the Juilliard School, The Alvin Ailey Dance Company, The Martha Graham Dance Company, LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Kaatsbaan Cultural Center, Manhattan Youth Ballet, International Barcelona Stage -Liceu Theatre-, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Mark Morris Dance Group, ZviDance, and many other elite arts education and performance institutions.

My most recent employment was as 2024 Visiting Artist in Residence and Lecturer at Bard College – A private liberal arts college located in New York’s Hudson Valley. There I designed and taught a Practicing Arts Course on the collaboration between Dance and Music to students from Bard’s Dance, Music, Theater, and Studio Art’s Programs.

Some more about me –

For ~17 years, I have led a private piano studio, instructing students of all ages and skill-levels – from young children and beginners, to adults, academics, and advanced performers. Many of my students have been with me for 10+ years.

I teach classical technique, repertoire, theory, composition, improvisation, art-theory, ear-training, functional skills, songwriting, jazz/popular and more, and have ample experience teaching in both ‘in-person’ and ‘online’ lesson-settings.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Classical Piano Performance from The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and continued my performance education at the National University of Costa Rica and El Instituto Superior De Artes, Costa Rica, before beginning my career in NYC.

For the following ~10 years in NYC, I trained extensively in accompaniment of Classical Ballet, Pointe, Partnering, Graham-technique, Improvisation, and various contemporary styles working with fellow accompanists Vladimir Shinov (Juilliard), Lawrence ‘Reed’ Hansen (Martha Graham’s personal accompanist) and under world-renowned instructors such as Alphonse Poulin, Taryn Kaschock Russel, Jeffrey Edwards, Deborah Wingert, Denise Vale, Lone Larsen, Marnie Wood and Tadej Brdnik, Matthew Rushing and Daniel Ulbricht, Glenn Edgerton and Terence Marling, Andre Tyson, Stella Abrera and Lorin Mathis, Henning Albrechtsen, Aleksandar Neskov and Emmy Corfia, Rodolfo Castellanos, Piotr Nardelli, Marianella Nunez, Elias Garcia, and Maria Simpson.

As a versatile musician working at the highest levels of accompaniment and co-production I apply the skills of composition, improvisation, sight-reading, collaboration, transcription, arrangement, orchestration, repertoire, and music-theory daily. It is this comprehensive, interdisciplinary toolset and an awareness of the fundamental nature of the abstract world (shared by all artforms), which I bestow upon my students through my unique methodology.

It would be my pleasure to speak over the phone and/or by email to share more information about myself and discuss the possibility of our working together.

Please feel free to request my C.V. for a more complete list of my professional engagements.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

Sincerely,
Daniel Hyde
