Do you love singing? Maybe you want to try it as a hobby? Come and take some online singing lessons with me. I’m vocal teacher Gemma Higgins, fully DBS checked. I have many years of working in the music industry! Gaining my First Diploma in Performing Arts at college, Music Education Teacher Cert at ABRSM, recording songs and performing in shows and pantomime, to singing on the live circuit in bands and in my acoustic duo Acoustical. I would love to hear from you. I can help you to improve your technique, tone, pitching and listening skills. Health benefits of singing are well documented: Singing improves your mood, releases endorphins and is a very effective stress reliever. Singing is so important because it builds self-confidence and promotes self-esteem.  I have always believed it is a fantastic way of bringing different ages and abilities to come together and create something special. Your voice is your instrument and needs constant care and attention, warm-ups prepare you for the intense vibrations that come along with singing.  It gives you a working structure to look after your precious instrument and makes your voice aware. Believe it or not, singing also makes you very productive! It requires you to isolate parts of your body but also to keep everything working together and creates a unique self-awareness of what the whole body is doing.  The more you practice getting used to your voice, the more confidence you will have in yourself. Having good vocal control, tone, clear phrasing and vocal support is so important and is the basis for singing.  I thoroughly believe in active listening while singing. Listening skills are so important and a valuable life skill, and is incredibly valuable training. As any vocal coach will tell you, breathing exercises are absolutely essential for good singing.   Breathing exercises give the singer a solid foundation from which to work.  Take care of the voice, I will provide you with all the support needed, with vocal health in mind your voice will serve you well for many years to come. The way to develop a good singing voice is to practice each of the points above, improving your voice and more. Performance skills and singing bring magic combined, mastering the craft of singing with stage presence brings energy and charisma, you are bringing something meaningful to the audience, and setting aside practice sessions will concentrate on integrating voice and movement.  All such important skills. Singing encourages you to express your emotions and sharpen your abilities to communicate whilst exercising lip and tongue movement.  And one of the biggest benefits of singing is the repeated use of the ‘memory muscle’. Having a good means of having a good voice throughout a song, not just every now and then.  Consistent volume, tone, pitching, support and style are most conducive to consistent singing.  Learning these vocal techniques will help you become a complete singer, your technique becomes greater than the sum of its parts when working on multiple facets of your voice. Simple vocal techniques include: Vibrato Breath control Humming Diction Phrasing Lip roll arpeggio Improvement is more rapid and steady when having the required knowledge and skills to develop your vocal instrument. Just as an athlete would never begin a training session without first stretching, it is never recommended that a singer jumps into intense vocal demands without first allowing the voice to warm up properly. Look after your voice, and your voice will look after you. A kind, patient, and knowledgeable teacher with years of experience teaching to all ages! If you’re looking for a comforting hand to help you or your child develop as a musician, I can help! As a working professional, I have the musicianship and teaching experience to help you push through whatever hurdles you may be facing. I pride myself in my focus on enjoyment for my sessions, I promise fun and productive environment for both my online and in person teaching. Drop me a message if you want that from our teacher! ABOUT THE LESSON: We’re all at our own stages of our musical journey and we all resonate differently to different teachings. Because of this I’m a believer in a reactive teaching style where, as the student, you get to decide what music you want to play to best suit you. I’m able to teach jazz, classical, pop, and other genres all to a high level so no matter what you’re looking for we can find improvements. The first lesson we have together will be more focused on getting to know your playing and finding any faults in technique we can iron out for the next session. From there, we’ll choose music and exercises, specifically chosen to help you develop; to learn between sessions so we can work on them together! It’s important for you to practice independently and I do often set homework; without strong practice we won’t be able to make any progress! ABOUT ME: I’ve been a working professional musician for 5 years, with a resume spanning music festivals both nationally and internationally (Cheltenham Jazz, London Jazz, Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul, Nozstock, and many more). I’ve done international tours to Portugal and Germany, notably having a platform at the Pico Jazz festival in the Azores. My teaching resume includes 1-1 teaching from the ages of 6-80, and 3-years’ worth of group workshop teaching. I’ve seen my teenage students go on to attend music schools across the country such as RBC, WRCMD, and Guildhall. Coming from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire jazz department, my knowledge and skills on saxophone, clarinet, and flute are all the highest standard. Outside of teaching, my main project is pushing my own jazz quartet featuring my own music. I have an enhanced DBS. I would love to hear from you, send me a message!

My name is Jonno Gaze and I am a percussionist, composer and improviser based in Birmingham, UK. Born in 1999, I grew up playing djembe and drum-kit with friends and family, singing songs and making lots of noise! At school, I played in bands and orchestras before finding musicians who really inspired me to make music. From 2016-2017 I was an Aldeburgh Young Musician, where I was lucky enough to meet musicians from different cultures all over the world who celebrated creativity, collaboration and the artistic nature of every individual. I loved collaborating with others and creating music together, which I still do now, and ultimately wanted to study music further after realising my heroes also studied. From 2017-2021 I studied jazz at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Now, music is a big part of my life and how I express myself and share with others, and I get a bit lost without it! Currently, I am involved in the eclectic jazz, electronic, folk and improvising scenes in the UK while teaching 1-1 drum lessons and leading creative music workshops. Music Qualifications & Achievements: Bachelor of Music (Jazz) from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Grade 8 Distinction on Drum-kit Young Drummer of the Year UK Finalist in 2014 & 2016
