As a gigging professional musician, I have many years of experience playing in live settings to audiences of all sizes and can give you direct feedback and the core skills for live performance.

  • Small Group and whole class teaching ages 8-16 for Wolverhampton Music Service
  • Small Group jazz tutoring ages 11-16 at Symphony Hall for B:Music
  • Large Ensemble Directing for the Notebenders Community Big Band

I place a strong emphasis on listening to music and developing your skills as an all-round musician. This includes ear-training, rhythm, instrumental technique, transcription, theory, composition, and much more!

About the lessons

My lessons offer a very personal learning experience that is tailored to your tastes and needs. Learn your favourite songs or new techniques/concepts that you want to explore. I can teach all abilities from beginner to advanced, with a focus on having fun exploring music.

Topics can range from learning songs, instrumental technique, improvisation, music theory, song writing and composition/arrangement. We can work either from my own syllabus or towards ABRSM and Trinity graded exams.

I am a specialist in jazz improvisation and can give you direction to learning to improvise with my own resources and syllabus. A typical first lesson entails meeting to discuss your goals, current experience with the instrument, and what music you would like to learn. From there we will begin bespoke lessons tailored to your needs as a learner. This could include specific listening, exercises, custom resource sheets, pieces to learn, and more!

Teaching usually takes place at my house or online. For your first lesson you will only need your instrument and a notebook to write in. Additionally I can help give you information and guidance on choosing a saxophone and where to find one if you are just getting started.
