Hi there to all, my name is Jay and I’ve been teaching on and off for 5 years, in between my day job which is writing treatments for TV commercials. So I teach basic vocal training for beginners with a view to helping improve your gig smartness to get you to gig ready for playing with bands or playing solo, or to get you started to play at an open mic night if that’s your desire. I also teach basic guitar studies and songwriting, once again, with a view to getting you ready to find other musicians, get connected to help you along your musical journey as I can, if that’s your wish, i.e. accompany you at an open mic night gig etc. So please get in touch and let’s start your search to find your true voice. Music Qualifications & Achievements: Started gigging 1990, fronting my first band, toured the whole of England and Scotland and played every place in London we could possibly play for 3 years. I also recorded an album for E.M. I then sung live backing vocals for various artists in London between 1993 till 1996 whilst promoting my open mic nights of which I would accompany artists instrumentally with the cajon, guitar (acoustic and electric ), bass congas, harmonica and backing vocals. Joined a band playing bass for 2 years recorded a studio album, gigged extensively once more. Then joined my last band in 98 and released an album on Boy George’s label a year later, promoting the album at Leeds, reading new band stage ,which lead us to get a better deal with Clive Davis and J Records. Then I moved to L.A to complete the second album, and even though the band does not exist I still write with the singer of that said band to this day, who I work with on commercials i.e. treatments and composing music for TV commercials. In terms of musical qualifications, I’m self-taught but have a wealth of experience that I have acquired through my travels and have worked with artists from many different genres from folk, pop, rock, soul-funk, reggae jazz, punk and metal with whatever was asked of me at the time which I think gives me a unique insight in how to approach these styles from professional and informal situations. All in all my musical journey has really enriched my skill set and my life.
Hi I’m David. I am highly passionate about passing on musical knowledge; approaches to learn or strengthen the building blocks of music- melody, harmony and rhythm. I teach: • Guitar • Ukulele • Trumpet • Songwriting • Music Theory & Ear Training • Singing whilst accompanying yourself My teaching style is for ALL ages and tailored towards each individual student. I will teach you to connect your voice, to your ear to your instrument. Your initial lesson with me will involve a discussion about your relationship with music- what you like and what you’d like to learn. On any instrument my approach is based around songs and tunes, extracting worthwhile exercises to develop both your technique, music theory and train your ear. I will also help you to develop the confidence and connection to truly express yourself through music. As a teacher and as an artist this is my foundation. Whether you are a beginner playing your first notes, a songwriter looking to bring new colours to your compositions or a more intermediate player enhancing your technique, we will develop consistent ways to practice and enjoy your journey. After all finding the fun in learning music helps us to stick with it. About Me: I am a professional singer / songwriter / guitarist & trumpeter, a formerly signed recording artist on DB records in the noughties. I started playing the guitar at the age of 10 and began performing as the lead singer in bands from the age of 13. I have fronted bands professionally in the folk-rock, soul & pop vein for over 30 years. I think these experiences give me an interesting perspective to pass on in that I have done a lot of recording, including work with producer Tim Oliver and have played loads of gigs with various professional musicians including Charlie Jones (Goldfrapp, Robert Plant), Clive Deamer (Robert Plant, Radiohead, Get The Blessing) and Jack Atherton (Jake Bugg). In the last decade I added the trumpet and the study of jazz to my own musical repertoire. Due to the complexities that come with trumpet technique, jazz harmony and improvisation I found that this was the most methodical I’ve been about learning and practising an instrument. The process was humbling so I sincerely am with you, every step of the way as you learn. I have formed a deeper connection to the idea of music as a language rather than some given talent. I strongly believe that most people can develop good musical skills with the right approach and consistent practice.

Singing lessons: what to expect
The best singing lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a coach who helps you build your voice safely and consistently. Search by location to find in-person singing lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist vocal coaches for pop, musical theatre, rock, classical, and exam preparation.
Singing lessons are for complete beginners through to experienced performers. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, and adults — whether you’re learning for fun, building confidence, joining a band or choir, or returning to singing after a break.
Most students work on breath control, pitch, tone, range, vocal agility, and song interpretation. A good vocal coach will also help you practise effectively, warm up safely, and build vocal stamina — so you improve without strain.
Online singing lessons can be highly effective for technique, consistency, and flexible scheduling — especially with an experienced coach. In-person lessons can feel more immersive and are great if you prefer face-to-face feedback and hands-on guidance.
A simple learning path for singing
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Learn healthy breathing, posture, warm-ups, and simple exercises to improve pitch accuracy and reduce strain while building confidence.
Develop stronger breath support, resonance and tone control, smoother transitions between registers, and start expanding your usable range.
Improve vocal agility, dynamics, phrasing and expression, build stamina for longer songs, and develop performance skills — tailored to your style and goals.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- No kit required: you can start with your voice, a phone recorder, and a quiet room.
- Hydration and warm-ups matter more than volume — good singing is built on consistency, not pushing.
- If learning online: headphones and a stable internet connection make lessons smoother.
