I’m Lewis, a musician who has been performing and teaching in the Aberdeen area for the past 22 years. I started off teaching bass to my best friend’s brother and soon found myself with many guitar and bass pupils in the music shop Bruce Millers. While at college I taught at Sound Ideas and later began piano teaching privately. Throughout this time I have been very active in the music scene, and so in lessons, there is an emphasis on practicality. This includes music theory. I will show the pupil how theory is relevant to the musical experiences they look for. Music Qualifications & Achievements: I have an HNC Music Performance, and have reached a high aptitude on bass, piano & guitar I am known in the Aberdeen jazz scene, having maintained a monthly residency at The Sanddollar Cafe for 7 years, played at The Blue Lamp and The Aberdeen Jazz Festival. Also Edinburgh, Callander & Langtoun Jazz Festivals To date I have recorded and released two high quality jazz albums. Teaching is inspiring in that all that I discover musically can be passed on and made more accessible to another generation.
Here at McBain Music School, we teach drums, piano, keyboard, and vocals to all ages and abilities. We have taken students from complete beginners all the way through the Rockschool syllabus from Debut Grade through to Grade 8 so we have plenty of experience using Rockschool. Our teachers have vast resources on the pieces such as written-out solos and parts that are not written in the books used in Rockschool to help ensure high grades when sitting the Rockschool exams. We also teach more advanced students who want to go on and study further preparing either for the performance diplomas or teaching diplomas offered by Rockschool. All our teachers are fully qualified teachers with PVG disclosures. Qualifications:
Hello! My name is Kirill! I’m a musician, guitarist, guitar tutor and just a guy who likes music, live music and people. I’m from Lithuania, I speak 3 languages: English, Russian and Lithuanian. I started playing guitar when I was 11 (I’m 24 now), mostly inspired by bands and composers like Nirvana, AC/DC, Metallica, Pantera, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, The Beatles and so on. As I musically grew up, I got to know new cool musicians and composers, such as Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Guthrie Govan, Shawn Lane, Ted Greene, Eric Johnson, Allan Holdsworth Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Andreas Oberg, Billy Strings and so many others… When I was about 16 years old I started giving guitar lessons. I did individual and group lessons back in Lithuania for 3 years with many students passing through. When I moved to the United Kingdom, I started playing live music much more and I was able to meet more interesting musicians. I live in Aberdeen, and here I play at local pubs, playing covers for folks and jamming with many awesome musicians around the town at the blues nights and open mics. I play live music every week, teaching music to my friends and relatives, and trying to increase our fun musical society! What do I play? – a bit of everything, starting with blues, country and rock, and developing on to funk, metal, pop, fusions of different genres and so on. Who do I accept as a student? – Anyone! I accept students at any level, and will teach them all the genres, concepts, techniques and theories which I use and encourage them to play live with my help, playing cool tunes, enjoying music around the town and seeing different interesting local musicians! Also, I see my mission is to explain that music is a language, and most importantly I will try to encourage becoming a self-taught musician to make future learning much easier and more interesting! I’m self-taught as well and I like to explain different problems- the more questions the student asks, the better they help me to help him and in doing so I learn more, as teaching is a double learning, so the student will help me too! If you are curious about my level of playing or if you are interested in my original music or you would like to contact me I will leave a links below! Music Qualifications & Achievements: Personal and public recordings, some are available on Youtube and Instagram. Played many gigs, as I play every week in pubs. Have experience of teaching plus I extremely like it!
Hello! My name is Dave Lorimer and I am musician and singing teacher based here in Aberdeen, helping students of all abilities develop their vocal talents. I have had a life-long interest in music and song, having become hooked on music after competing and winning my first singing competition at the age of 10. I learned to play harmonica and guitar at school and have studied with some well known singers and performers on the Scottish Jazz and Traditional Music scene. My approach to lessons and to teaching is organic; it grows from the student's voice and from my knowledge of what it takes to make best use of that voice and meet the needs of the song. The ability to sing is everyone's gift, it is also a craft that needs to be nurtured. In our first lesson I will scope out your needs and find your vocal range, take a look the type of songs you like, sing a few songs together and look at how to find the right key for a song. I understand that every student is different and will have different tastes in music. I will make sure that we aim towards learning the music that personally inspires you whilst still picking up all the relevant theory. Lessons are currently charged at £25 for a one hour session.

Guitar lessons: what to expect
The best guitar lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a teacher who helps you progress with clarity. Search by location to find in-person guitar lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist teachers for acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, rock, or grades.
Guitar lessons work for complete beginners, intermediate players, and advanced students. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, or adults returning to guitar — with a focus on the styles and songs you actually want to play.
Most students work on chord fluency, rhythm, strumming feel, scales, finger placement, and repertoire. A good teacher will also structure your practice so you build confidence and technique without getting stuck.
Online guitar lessons can be highly effective, especially for busy schedules and specialist tuition. In-person lessons can feel more hands-on and are great if you prefer local support and face-to-face feedback.
A simple learning path for guitar
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Learn posture, tuning, chord changes, strumming patterns, and how to practise without building bad habits.
Build a steady sense of timing, expand chord vocabulary (including barre chords), and play full songs with confidence.
Develop picking, fingerstyle, lead basics, improvisation foundations, or exam preparation — depending on your goals.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- Acoustic vs electric: your teacher can recommend what fits your music taste and comfort.
- A tuner + a few picks is enough to start — then add a capo or strap as you progress.
- A simple practice routine beats long sessions: aim for consistency, not intensity.
