Lessons Tailored To You
I began teaching guitar at the age of 18, just before going to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I honed my teaching skills whilst still a student myself and have since had many pupils, from children to middle-aged people, with various interests and abilities. Coming from a classical background and having studied more contemporary styles including jazz, I can cater to whatever genre a student is interested in, whilst emphasising key fundamentals such as reading notation and basic harmonic understanding.

Bass Guitar Lessons to Improve Technique
When you take bass guitar lessons with me, you’ll discover a wide variety of playing techniques designed to help you express yourself as a musician. My goal as a bass guitar teacher is to ensure you feel comfortable while building confidence in your playing, no matter your style or skill level. These techniques will elevate your playing and allow you to explore genres like rock, blues, jazz, and beyond.
Fingerstyle Playing
One of the most fundamental techniques I teach in lessons is fingerstyle playing. This involves using your index and middle fingers to pluck the strings. It’s an essential skill for any player who wants to achieve a warm, organic tone. During your first lesson, I’ll guide you through the basics to get you comfortable and ready to explore more complex techniques as you progress.
Slap Bass
For students looking to add some flair to their playing, slap and pop techniques are both fun and effective. These are must-learns for bassists inspired by funk, rock, or even modern pop music. I’ll teach you how to slap the string with your thumb and pluck it with your finger, creating an energetic sound that stands out. Trust me, it’s one of the most enjoyable techniques to learn, and even after just one lesson, you’ll notice a difference in your playing.
Using a Pick
If you’re inspired by rock or punk guitarists, pick playing (also called plectrum playing) is a great technique to master. During our bass guitar lessons, I’ll show you how to use a pick properly to achieve a sharper, punchier tone. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried it—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned musician, I’ll make sure you feel at ease as we go step by step.
Improvisation and Groove Building
Playing bass isn’t just about technique—it’s about feeling the music and creating a groove. I believe improvisation is an essential skill every bass player should develop. Through my personalised bass lessons in Manchester, I’ll teach you how to listen closely to the music, craft unique basslines, and even create improvised solos when the moment calls for it.
Integrating Styles and Songs
From rock anthems to soulful blues, I’ll help you learn to play songs that inspire and challenge you. Together, we’ll break down complex pieces into manageable sections, so you always feel confident and supported as you learn. I also offer electric guitar and bass guitar lessons for anyone interested in exploring both instruments. Be it through one-on-one lessons in Manchester or online lessons tailored to your lifestyle, I’m here to teach in a way that fits your goals.
