I'm a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music Jazz Performance Bachelor's Degree, and a vast amount of my experience centres around improvised music, including Jazz, Afrobeat, Soul, Pop, Rock, RnB and more. Through 1-1 lessons and masterclasses, I’ve catered to students of varying ages and skill levels, both privately and at educational centres such as The World Heart Beat Music Academy. I have demonstrated proficiency in covering a comprehensive range of musicality aspects, ensuring a well-rounded education for my students. I have designed and implemented sessions that encompass various elements of musical training, including aural skills development, sight reading, improvisation, composition, solo performance, and group performance. In 1-1 sessions, I've honed in on refining aural training, instrumental technique and sight reading skills, tailoring exercises to suit individual learning styles. Beyond individual instruction, I've extended my teaching expertise to conducting Masterclasses and group sessions. Notably, I've had the honour of leading Masterclasses for esteemed institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, RAM Junior Jazz Club, Future Sounds Live, Ronnie Scott's Charitable Foundation and New Generation Jazz. In these sessions, I've witnessed firsthand the benefits of group learning, where students not only gain insights from me but also guide and inspire each other. Group settings provide a unique platform for collaborative learning, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. Students learn not only to refine their individual skills but also to thrive in a band setting, culminating in collective performances that enhance their stage presence and overall musicality. As well as my experience as a Musician and Music Teacher, I have in-depth experience as a SEN specialised teaching assistant, and music session coordinator, working with primary aged SEN students to create fun and inclusive 1-1 and small group music sessions.
The point of learning an instrument, it seems to me, is to be free to do what you like, express what you wish and travel as far in fulfilling that quest as you can. Obviously there are some hurdles in the way but if you benefit from a proper explanation of some the more abstruse aspects of musicianship and how they might assist you in your quest you're likely to be a lot happier about it. This I try to do. Adult learners can have some concerns about their abilities and may suffer a degree of discomfort at being a novice in a field they have little knowledge of that younger types are untroubled by. Don't let this stop you. Difficulties will be overcome in no time and once you realise that music is not some arcane field that only the mysteriously gifted can have access to you'll have a lot of fun. Qualifications: BA (hons) Music Performance Guitar, LCM Theory of Music Grade 8, ABRSM Guitar Grade 8

Learning with me, you will find that training yourself to play an instrument is simpler than you thought possible. Not only will I give you the technical and musical knowledge required to become a great musician, I will also show you how to build healthy and productive practice and performance habits so that you can enjoy improving and playing consistently on your instrument of choice. Lessons with me are entirely student-centric, taking into account your current skill level, goals, musical interests, and learning style. I understand that there can be many mental and physical barriers to learning music, and over my many years of experience as a teacher, I have always found a way around them for my students. I have a very deep understanding of technique and theory, having spent half my life practicing guitar. I have spent years researching how to play guitar and bass using the least possible physical effort, employing musculature and gravity efficiently. I can show you how good tone is produced and how to build coordination. I am familiar with a huge range of music and can show you songs and pieces to learn that are not only suited to your interests and skill level, but will also give you foundational skills that will make the next songs you learn easier. Above all, if there’s any music you want to learn, I will find a way to get you playing it as soon as possible. For those students interested in doing grades, I am experienced with getting students prepared for exams, and am familiar with the repertoire in most of the grade books including Trinity Classical and Rock/Pop, ABRSM Classical and Plectrum, as well as Rockschool and RGT grades.

My name is Sam Becker and I am a freelance double bass and bass guitarist living and working in London. I began playing cello at the age of 6 and picked up the double bass 10 years later and I have been playing bass professionally for the last 5 years. I believe that enjoyment should come first. I think it’s really important that the needs of the student are fully catered for and that the love of their instrument and music should come before anything else. I have spent many years honing my teaching skills and I will always make sure that the aims of the student are taken into consideration when coming up with a plan for that pupil. I teach a wide range of styles and skills and I think it’s really important to keep music education fresh and current. Music is an ever-evolving medium and I think therefore the teaching of music needs to be kept up to date. I always aim to put a smile on my student’s face before the lesson is over!
