Jordan has been working as a performer and Vocal tutor since 2012 and has lots of experience with different voices. Being member of numerous bands she performs regularly around the country singing at various events. Jordan also writes and performs her own music varying her performance style and techniques considering which is most relevant for the repertoire. With a direct knowledge of the performance industry Jordan is able to share this experience with her students and really encourage her students to gain confidence and ability to become performers themselves. Specialising in Pop singing, Jordan uses contemporary methods to achieve a practical way of improving the voice. She has lead some students into the Trinity and Rock School singing exams to achieve a distinction every time. Jordan has experience teaching both one to one lessons and group sessions ranging from ages 4-35, every age is considered. Jordan is also able to adapt to a number of other musical styles, primarily teaching to build the confidence and fulfillment of every student. Whether you are a beginner struggling to find your voice and want to have fun singing your favourite music or want a more professional level of training, I can provide accessible vocal training for all levels and genres, with a friendly and encouraging approach. I provide accessible cello tuition for beginner to intermediates. I place great importance on developing a true connection to the cello that is relaxed and focussed, developing a sound that you enjoy. I work with students to improve not only their general technique and quality but also work on performance confidence, communication, leadership and directing. I can also provide support leading up to performances and auditions. If you are looking to take exams, we can also discuss taking grades. If you would like to write your own music, songs or lyrics I can help with this too. I can teach lessons in-person, online or from your home depending on the distance. In terms of my professional experience I am a Classically trained vocalist and cellist with a love for all types of music and performance. I began singing as a member of the Exeter Cathedral and Buckfast Abbey choirs and have a BA Hons in Classical Voice from Leeds Conservatoire. I have performed with a diverse number of groups including Opera North, Leeds Contemporary Singers, Leeds Baroque Choir, LCON Chamber Choir and Orchestra (cello), Contemporary Pop Choir and LCON Opera Scenes; I was also Music Director for the LCON Opera Society in 2019. My performance experience spans genres such as Classical, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, Punk, Jazz, Folk and more! Since graduating in June 2020 I have been working as a professional session vocalist and cellist for a variety of recording sessions and performances and regularly perform with bands, groups and ensembles. I have plenty of experience leading choirs, orchestras, opera groups, bands and continue to teach 1 to 1.

Marilena Stefanou - Singing teacher
Marilena Stefanou
SingingThe Gateway East, 906 Marsh Ln, Leeds LS9 8AY, UK4.3 km
£15.00

Hello, my name is Marilena, and I’m a professional singer, vocal coach, and music educator based in the UK and Cyprus. I hold a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music from Leeds Conservatoire, where I spent four years developing my artistry, performance skills, and teaching methods. With years of experience on stage and in the studio, I’ve had the privilege of performing on television and at venues like the Royal Albert Hall. I’m currently working closely with students of all ages, helping them build confidence, improve technique, and express themselves through music. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your voice, learn piano, dive into music theory, or write your first song, I’m here to provide support and guide you through every step of the way with lessons tailored to your goals, pace, and style. In addition to teaching and performing, I’m also an active songwriter. I recently signed an original track with MediaTracks, a respected UK-based library music publisher. The track will soon be featured in their catalogue, making it available for sync licensing by major media companies such as Universal Music Group (UMG), Warner Music Group, Sony Music, and Columbia Records. I’m also currently awaiting a placement decision on another song submitted to their team. To me, music is more than a skill. I see music as a powerful way of connecting with our inner self as well as with the people around us. My approach combines structure with creativity, and technique with emotional expression, in a safe and encouraging environment. One of my favourite quotes is “Art is the expression of the profoundest thoughts in the simplest way” by Albert Einstein.”

Singing lessons: what to expect

Singing lessons near you

The best singing lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a coach who helps you build your voice safely and consistently. Search by location to find in-person singing lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist vocal coaches for pop, musical theatre, rock, classical, and exam preparation.

Who singing lessons are for

Singing lessons are for complete beginners through to experienced performers. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, and adults — whether you’re learning for fun, building confidence, joining a band or choir, or returning to singing after a break.

What you’ll learn in singing lessons

Most students work on breath control, pitch, tone, range, vocal agility, and song interpretation. A good vocal coach will also help you practise effectively, warm up safely, and build vocal stamina — so you improve without strain.

Online vs in-person singing lessons

Online singing lessons can be highly effective for technique, consistency, and flexible scheduling — especially with an experienced coach. In-person lessons can feel more immersive and are great if you prefer face-to-face feedback and hands-on guidance.

A simple learning path for singing

A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.

Weeks 1–4: Breath, pitch & confidence
1

Learn healthy breathing, posture, warm-ups, and simple exercises to improve pitch accuracy and reduce strain while building confidence.

Months 2–3: Control, tone & range
2

Develop stronger breath support, resonance and tone control, smoother transitions between registers, and start expanding your usable range.

Months 3–6: Style, performance & stamina
3

Improve vocal agility, dynamics, phrasing and expression, build stamina for longer songs, and develop performance skills — tailored to your style and goals.

Getting started: what you need

Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.

  • No kit required: you can start with your voice, a phone recorder, and a quiet room.
  • Hydration and warm-ups matter more than volume — good singing is built on consistency, not pushing.
  • If learning online: headphones and a stable internet connection make lessons smoother.

Styles & goals your teacher can support

Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.

Pop vocals
