Tom Smith

Tom is a professional tenor and experienced music educator with a passion for helping others develop their voices and musicianship. He trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, graduating with a Master’s degree in Advanced Operatic Performance in 2017, and has since built a varied and successful career in opera and concert performance.

As a freelance soloist and ensemble member, Tom has performed with leading companies across Europe, including Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, Bergen National Opera, and Welsh National Opera. His varied repertoire spans baroque, classical, and contemporary works, as well as musical theatre.

Alongside his performing career, Tom is a dedicated and knowledgeable teacher. He specialises in vocal technique, song repertoire, and healthy voice development, working with singers of all levels. His teaching focuses on building a strong technical foundation while encouraging musical expression and confidence. As an active recitalist, he brings a deep understanding of performance practice and interpretation into his lessons.

In addition to singing, Tom is also an accomplished classical guitarist and offers beginner classical guitar lessons. These lessons are ideal for those new to the instrument, with a focus on building solid fundamentals, good technique, and musical enjoyment from the very start.

Tom is currently a full-time member of the Chorus of Opera North. With his friendly, supportive approach and extensive professional experience, he aims to inspire and guide students in reaching their full musical potential.
