I valve myself as being a very patient and understanding person when it comes to teaching the guitar, my lessons are always a comfortable friendly environment where my only goal is to make you the best player you can be.

Guitar has been my passion for as long as I can remember and my aim as a teacher is to instil this passion into my students. I feel that learning the guitar is not just about knowing chords, scales and passing grades, but knowing how to use these skills to write songs, create melodies, having a great guitar tone and playing killer solos by yourself, in a band or with Friends.

I have extensive performing experience in a wide range of different genres and I am more than happy to personalise your guitar learning experience with these things in mind. I also cover string changing, guitar maintenance tips and showing you a vast array of musicians that you can draw experience from to help your playing.

I would encourage enquiries of all standards even if you have never picked up a guitar before. If you require any further information please get in touch via phone or email, my schedule is open for bookings currently and I am more than happy to chat with you regarding lessons.

Choosing the right Yeovil guitar teacher

Guitar lessons Yeovil with a Local Guitar Teacher

Guitar lessons in Yeovil are available for children and adults, including complete beginners, with options that suit beginners through to advanced players. Many tutors offer tailored sessions built around your goals and learning style, with individual care and flexible scheduling. Lessons are commonly offered as private one-to-one tuition, with group and online options also available depending on the teacher.

Guitar Lessons & Guitar Tuition

Lessons can cover acoustic guitar and electric guitar, with guitar tuition typically adapted to your level—whether you’re starting from the basics or building guitar skills for more advanced work. Many Yeovil tutors teach core technique and musicianship (such as rhythm, timing, chords, scales, and practical music theory) and then apply it to songs and styles you enjoy. Some teachers can also support bass guitar foundations, depending on the tutor and lesson format.

Your Guitar Tutor & More Options

Choosing a guitar tutor in Yeovil is an important investment that can help you progress faster with clear guidance and structured practice; ask about experience, availability, and the number of years they’ve taught music. Many local teachers offer flexible scheduling and teach from home studios, with some offering online lessons as well; in addition, a good guitar teacher will explain what to practise between lessons. One-to-one tuition is common, and group lessons may be available. Typical pricing in Yeovil is often around £25–£30 per hour, though rates vary by experience, location, and whether lessons are in-person or online.

bass guitar

Bass guitar lessons are an option in and around Yeovil for players who want to build solid timing, groove, and reliable technique. Depending on the tutor, lessons may cover basics such as right- and left-hand coordination, muting, note choices, and playing with drums, alongside simple theory like intervals and chord tones. If you play both guitar and bass, some teachers can help plan lessons to balance both instruments.

A simple route from first chords to confident playing

We keep learning logical: technique first, then musical application, then performance skills—Jamie keeps it practical at every step. Each step uses clear goals so students always know what to practise.

Foundations for beginners
1

Hold the guitar comfortably, tune accurately, learn core open chords, and build a steady strum. Start basic music theory: rhythm values and simple chord symbols.

Technique and musical control
2

Add barre chords, clean chord changes, alternate picking, and timing drills. Use music theory to map scales and keys, and apply them to riffs.

Real-world musicianship
3

Develop tone, dynamics, and confident transitions with Jamie, built on years of good habits. Prepare a small set of songs for recording or performance, and practise with a click to stay tight.

What you need for your first lesson

A basic, reliable setup helps you focus on music, not troubleshooting. We’ll also give advice on comfortable action and string choice.

  • Bring a working guitar, plectrums, and a clip-on tuner; for electric guitar, include a small practice amp and a lead for testing.
  • Use a strap and footstool if helpful, plus a notebook or app for lesson notes; keep sheet clips handy for chord charts.
  • Set up a quiet home practice spot with a chair, music stand, and metronome app; consistency matters more than long sessions.

Styles we teach, and outcomes we plan for

Our guitar tuition covers common genres and practical goals, from first chords to band readiness—Jamie’s teaching keeps lessons focused and enjoyable. We adapt teaching to the music you actually listen to.

Acoustic foundations
Popular pathways

Build clean chord shapes, strumming patterns, and fingerpicking. Ideal for beginners who want reliable rhythm and a strong sound on acoustic guitar.

Electric lead and rhythm
Popular pathways

Bass for bands
Popular pathways

Theory made usable
Popular pathways

Learn music theory through the fretboard: intervals, scales, and chord building. This improves understanding, improvisation, and faster learning of new music.

Confidence and performance
Popular pathways

Prepare pieces for open mics, school events, or recordings. We practise starting cleanly, keeping time, and recovering smoothly from mistakes.

More Yeovil guitar lesson FAQs

What do Guitar Lessons Yeovil cover in the first month for beginners?

Beginner guitar lessons in Yeovil often focus on building solid foundations first—basic posture, strumming or picking, clean fretting, and simple chord changes—before jumping into harder songs. Many tutors introduce rhythm and other fundamentals early, then apply them to simple music so progress feels practical; over the years, this approach builds confidence quickly for all people.

Do you teach children and adults, and what ages work best with a guitar teacher?

Guitar lessons in Yeovil are available for both children and adults. Different teachers set different age ranges, but many offer lessons that are adapted to the learner’s age, attention span, and goals like playing songs, with guidance on suitable guitar size and setup where needed.

How much are guitar lessons in Yeovil and how often should I book?

Many tutors in Yeovil charge around £25–£30 per hour, although exact prices vary by tutor, experience, and whether lessons are one-to-one, group, or online. Frequency is flexible—weekly lessons are common, but some students book fortnightly or arrange sessions around work, school, or term-time routines.

What’s better: one-to-one, paired, or group guitar lessons in Yeovil (more options)?

Yeovil learners can often choose between one-to-one lessons, group lessons, and online options. One-to-one tuition is the most common for fully personalised feedback, while group lessons can be a good fit for learners who enjoy a shared format and structured practice with others. The best option depends on your goals, budget, and schedule.

Can you help me switch between acoustic guitar and electric guitar?

Many guitar tutors in Yeovil teach both acoustic and electric guitar, and lessons can be adapted around whichever instrument you have available. Teachers often focus on transferable fundamentals (timing, clean fretting, chord changes, and basic technique) so your progress carries across instruments.

Where are good live-music venues in Yeovil to watch guitarists and get motivated?

A few reliable places to start for live music, touring shows, tribute nights, and community events in and around Yeovil are:

  • Westlands Entertainment Venue (Yeovil) – a local entertainment venue with music and live events listed through its official programme: Westlands
  • Yeovil Rugby Club – a local club venue with an events section, useful for checking occasional community nights and live entertainment: Yeovil Rugby Club
  • The David Hall (South Petherton, near Yeovil) – a nearby arts venue that hosts live music and community performances: The David Hall

Tip: before heading out, check each venue’s official what’s-on page because event times, tickets, and line-ups can change.

Where can I buy guitar strings and accessories near Yeovil?

Yeovil does not always have the same choice of specialist guitar shops as larger cities, so it is worth checking current local options before making a trip. For basic accessories or used equipment, general second-hand retailers may sometimes have guitars, amps, leads, stands, or cases, but stock changes regularly:

  • Cash Converters Yeovil – can be worth checking for used instruments, amps, and accessories, depending on current stock: Cash Converters
  • CeX Yeovil – mainly a technology and entertainment retailer, but may occasionally have useful second-hand audio or music-related items: CeX

For strings, setup work, repairs, or advice on guitar action and string gauge, ask your teacher for the most reliable current local recommendation before travelling or buying online.

Are there any famous bands or singers connected to Yeovil I can learn songs by?

Yes. Yeovil and the wider Somerset area have a few useful music connections that can make a local setlist more interesting:

  • The Chesterfields – an indie pop band from Yeovil, useful for students who want to explore local guitar-based music and melodic rhythm parts.
  • The Wurzels – a well-known Somerset band with straightforward, singalong rhythm-guitar material and strong West Country links: The Wurzels

If you tell your tutor the style you like, they can suggest 2–3 suitably levelled songs from local or regional artists and build technique goals around them.
