I valve myself as being a very patient and understanding person when it comes to teaching the guitar, my lessons are always a comfortable friendly environment where my only goal is to make you the best player you can be.
Guitar has been my passion for as long as I can remember and my aim as a teacher is to instil this passion into my students. I feel that learning the guitar is not just about knowing chords, scales and passing grades, but knowing how to use these skills to write songs, create melodies, having a great guitar tone and playing killer solos by yourself, in a band or with Friends.
I have extensive performing experience in a wide range of different genres and I am more than happy to personalise your guitar learning experience with these things in mind. I also cover string changing, guitar maintenance tips and showing you a vast array of musicians that you can draw experience from to help your playing.
I would encourage enquiries of all standards even if you have never picked up a guitar before. If you require any further information please get in touch via phone or email, my schedule is open for bookings currently and I am more than happy to chat with you regarding lessons.

A simple route from first chords to confident playing
We keep learning logical: technique first, then musical application, then performance skills—Jamie keeps it practical at every step. Each step uses clear goals so students always know what to practise.
Hold the guitar comfortably, tune accurately, learn core open chords, and build a steady strum. Start basic music theory: rhythm values and simple chord symbols.
Add barre chords, clean chord changes, alternate picking, and timing drills. Use music theory to map scales and keys, and apply them to riffs.
Develop tone, dynamics, and confident transitions with Jamie, built on years of good habits. Prepare a small set of songs for recording or performance, and practise with a click to stay tight.
What you need for your first lesson
A basic, reliable setup helps you focus on music, not troubleshooting. We’ll also give advice on comfortable action and string choice.
- Bring a working guitar, plectrums, and a clip-on tuner; for electric guitar, include a small practice amp and a lead for testing.
- Use a strap and footstool if helpful, plus a notebook or app for lesson notes; keep sheet clips handy for chord charts.
- Set up a quiet home practice spot with a chair, music stand, and metronome app; consistency matters more than long sessions.
Styles we teach, and outcomes we plan for
Our guitar tuition covers common genres and practical goals, from first chords to band readiness—Jamie’s teaching keeps lessons focused and enjoyable. We adapt teaching to the music you actually listen to.
Build clean chord shapes, strumming patterns, and fingerpicking. Ideal for beginners who want reliable rhythm and a strong sound on acoustic guitar.
Work on picking control, bends, vibrato, and riffs. Learn how to practise with backing tracks and shape tone on electric guitar.
Develop timing, muting, and groove, then learn chord tones and simple fills. Great for students joining local groups or ensembles.
Learn music theory through the fretboard: intervals, scales, and chord building. This improves understanding, improvisation, and faster learning of new music.
Prepare pieces for open mics, school events, or recordings. We practise starting cleanly, keeping time, and recovering smoothly from mistakes.
