Rockschool is a great syllabus to help engage and inspire people into learning how to play an instrument. Learning how to read music and playing classical music at the very beginnings of your training can sometimes be difficult and also irrelevant to our interests. Rockschool enables musicians to learn songs that are current and also relevant to their lives. Music can be a lot more interesting and easier to learn when it has a relationship to our current lives. Other styles of Music such as classical can then be explored once the passion has been established and some of the grounding has been learnt. My name is Dan and I am originally from the North East of England now living in London. I have over 18 years of experience working as a professional musician. I have played in bands since I was 16 covering all sorts of different styles. Being a professional musician has given me experiences I don’t think I would have had with any other chosen profession. It has enabled me to travel extensively playing a wide range of gigs, whether it be music festivals or private parties. It has also enabled me to meet some of my musical heroes and perform in front of many well know people. I love playing guitar, performing, teaching others and sharing my musical experience and knowledge. I love watching others improve and gain confidence on their instrument using some of the tools I have equipped them with. I have taught as a peripatetic guitar teacher in schools and privately covering everything from theory to grades or just taught people for fun showing them how to play there favourite riffs/chord progressions. I have also worked with large groups of adults as part of corporate team building events. I am happy to teach a wide range of ages/ability levels and help my students reach their goals. Ever since I discovered Rock music at a young age, it was bands like ACDC and Metallica that inspired me to pick up the guitar, later getting into Oasis and Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin to name but a few. My very first instrument was piano but given that rock music was my motivation, piano didn’t quite cut it! My Approach as a Teacher: I am a patient, laid-back music teacher who is happy to work at whatever pace/intensity that I feel best suits the student. I have gained many skills/tools along the way to help get the best out of my students. I don\’t believe in putting pressure on people and prefer to create a stress free/fun environment. I really enjoy teaching my student their favourite songs, dissecting each part and showing them how to play their favourite sections of each song. This can be really motivational for students as it gives them something fun to focus on, whilst learning some valuable techniques. Music Qualifications & Achievements: B.TECH National Diploma in Popular Music B.A Hons Degree in Popular Music Grade 5 Music Theory. I have toured the UK with ex Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, played with people such as Reef, Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley, Mel B to name but a few. I have played many of the UK music festivals and plethora of other gigs from London to the Seychelles. The fact that I have managed to earn my living doing something I love for the last 18 years is my biggest musical achievement, and it’s knowledge and skills I have picked up along the way that gives me the motivation to teach. I want to pass on my knowledge and watch other achieve what they want to in music with my help.

Hello! I'm a guitarist & guitar teacher based in Ruislip, NW London. I have been playing guitar over 30 years & teaching for the last 16 years. I have worked with signed bands, played UK & European tours and had music used for television & film, as well as doing commercial music & session work. In my earlier years I studied with Andy Bray (pre Brighton Institute of Modern Music), composer Barrie Gledden and jazz guitarist Merv Young. I teach 1:1 tuition in contemporary 6 & 7 string electric guitar and acoustic guitar, from complete beginners through to advanced. Lessons are fun and friendly, and are structured to meet the individual's needs as well as offering a comprehensive teaching syllabus from beginners to advanced, with a view to you becoming a versatile & well-rounded guitarist with the knowledge & ability to create your own style & sound. I also have stacks of ideas, lessons & exercises to help you out of creative ruts or to overcome any technique hurdles, or simply learn the songs you've always wanted to play, whilst helping you understand the theory & techniques behind them. Shoi has been playing the guitar for 25 years and holds a Higher Diploma in Music Performance from the ICMP. He has recorded a number of albums and toured across Europe and Asia. He has been teaching since 2007 with his private teaching business and his peripatetic teaching in schools. Shoi prides himself in inspiring young musicians to hone their skills but also develop their musical sensibility by exposing them to a wide range of music. With over 60 students at his teaching studio in Ruislip. His students range in age of 5 to 55. He has a successful track record in preparing his pupils for their grading exams Debut to Grade 8 with a vast number obtaining Merits and above. Ahead of exams Shoi will conduct mock tests to prepare pupils to the rigour of a Rockschool examination. 

Shoi focuses his teaching on technique, theory & improvisation whilst covering a wide range of styles. DBS checked. Shoi has also tutored children for the Musical Aptitude Test (MAT) for Grammar school entry examination. Every year Shoi hosts a week long summer workshop with children of different levels where the young aspiring musicians are tasked with learning a full tune in one week. The layout of the course is a group lesson where Shoi demonstrates and teaches parts of the chosen song each day. The second part of the lesson is a live performance workshop where the children perform parts of the song with a drummer and bass player to create a real band experience. During the live performance workshop Shoi provides feedback on how to perform the song better and how to work with other band members. 
 Shoi has also been working with the Hillingdon Music Service since 2015 as a peripatetic music teacher. He currently conducts guitar lessons in six schools within the borough and host rock and pop ensemble during the holidays. Qualifications: Higher Diploma in Comtemporary Music (ICMP)

I have a lot of experience teaching Music Technology/Production and music performance. I am also a professional freelance musician and regularly perform in venues throughout London and at functions and events in the UK.
