I am a professional secondary school music teacher offering 1-on-1 Rock School and Trinity Rock and Pop guitar lessons for pupils of all ages. Lessons are typically 30 mins to 1 hour in length. These can be delivered in person or online, whatever suits you. We review the curriculum together and tailor lessons to suit your learning style. We set up realistic targets and you will be supported every step of the way to help take your guitar playing to the next level. A stereotypical lesson would consist of: 1) Warm up exercises and technical skills 2) A play through of material learnt in the previous lesson/home practice, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. 3) Addressing these areas and polishing your technique. 4) Pushing forward and learning new content. 5) Setting targets to be completed for the next lesson in your own home practice. My skills and expertise include playing the electric guitar, acoustic guitars, bass guitar and piano. I have an eclectic musical taste but my main influences derive from rock and metal music. I am based in the Elephant and Castle area located very close to train, underground and bus stops for easy access for students. I am willing to travel to the students property but this needs to be discussed prior to agreeing lessons. Online lessons available also. You will find that I am a very supportive teacher and I am able to get the best out of my students by scaffolding their learning to suit their individual needs so that they can achieve the highest results possible. I look forward to working with you! Qualifications: PGCE Secondary Music, BAjointHons Music & Sonic Arts
Hi, I’m Leo, an instrumental teacher and professional musician based in South London. I’m really excited to help you experience the infinite joy of making music! Learning with me, you will find that training yourself to play an instrument is simpler than you thought possible. Not only will I give you the technical and musical knowledge required to become a great musician, I will also show you how to build healthy and productive practice and performance habits so that you can enjoy improving and playing consistently on your instrument of choice. I understand that there can be many mental and physical barriers to learning music, and over my many years of experience as a teacher, I have always found a way around them for my students. My name is Nick Morgan and I am a professional Bassist based in Brixton, and working on London’s famous Denmark Street. Having started with the viola aged 8, I have since picked up a wealth of experience and knowledge – as well as other instruments – which I am keen to share. At age 13 I added the guitar and bass to my repertoire and joined a variety of different ensembles, including Orchestras, Concert Bands, Jazz Combos of various sizes, String Quartets and Popular Groups from Metal to Indie. I attended weekly rehearsals for each group, as well as taking any school-provided Music opportunities and quickly found Music was all I wanted to do, despite never planning it as a career option. However, thanks to these groups and courses, by the age of 18 I had played dozens of concerts throughout Europe and gained an understanding of what it takes to be a professional performer in almost any scenario or venue; further honed by my time at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I earned a BMus Music degree with Second-Class Honours. Thus, since then I have thrown myself into the world of Music. While at Goldsmiths I continued playing in the University Orchestra, as well as my own projects away from the world of classical music (available to view below) with a particular love of production and engineering appearing. I spent time working in such studios as the fantastic GMS at Goldsmiths, Snap Studios and recently Metropolis Studios, and eventually recording with artists such as Brandy Row, Robert Chaney and Oli Swan’s Dangerous Creatures. Today my primary group, Big Peyote, have our own studio as well as my own home facilities, and recording has become another skill that I am keen to share. In the modern music industry, it has become a necessity to be highly adaptable and possess a wide range of skills from recording and performing to effective self-promotion and networking. As an example of this myself – currently teaching, working as a session musician, writing and recording with a number of projects, and also working selling instruments on Denmark Street – I am able to not just teach you an instrument, but how to get yourself into this crazy industry! Guitar lessons: what to expect
The best guitar lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a teacher who helps you progress with clarity. Search by location to find in-person guitar lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist teachers for acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, rock, or grades.
Guitar lessons work for complete beginners, intermediate players, and advanced students. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, or adults returning to guitar — with a focus on the styles and songs you actually want to play.
Most students work on chord fluency, rhythm, strumming feel, scales, finger placement, and repertoire. A good teacher will also structure your practice so you build confidence and technique without getting stuck.
Online guitar lessons can be highly effective, especially for busy schedules and specialist tuition. In-person lessons can feel more hands-on and are great if you prefer local support and face-to-face feedback.
A simple learning path for guitar
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Learn posture, tuning, chord changes, strumming patterns, and how to practise without building bad habits.
Build a steady sense of timing, expand chord vocabulary (including barre chords), and play full songs with confidence.
Develop picking, fingerstyle, lead basics, improvisation foundations, or exam preparation — depending on your goals.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- Acoustic vs electric: your teacher can recommend what fits your music taste and comfort.
- A tuner + a few picks is enough to start — then add a capo or strap as you progress.
- A simple practice routine beats long sessions: aim for consistency, not intensity.
Styles & goals your teacher can support
Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.
Chord progressions, strumming feel, accompaniment patterns, and building a set of songs.
Riffs, power chords, pentatonic shapes, bends, vibrato, and solo phrasing.
Right-hand patterns, independence, tone control, and arranging songs for solo guitar.
Technique, repertoire, sight-reading or musicianship skills, and a clear practice plan.
