Hello, I’m Tim – a qualified teacher, professional drummer, and experienced online music tutor based in Cornwall, UK. I specialise in small-group online drum kit tuition for children aged 8+, with a strong focus on structure, consistency, and clear progress. I do not offer individual lessons or adult tuition; my teaching model is built entirely around carefully designed group learning for young drummers who thrive with direction and shared goals. Music has been a central part of my life for decades. I hold a BA (Hons) in Music & Sound alongside a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which means I bring both professional musicianship and formal classroom training to every lesson. This combination allows me to deliver drum lessons that are engaging, well-paced, and rooted in proven educational practice – not improvised or ad-hoc teaching. Over the years, I’ve taught hundreds of children through schools, peripatetic services, and online platforms. I previously ran a successful percussion service across Cornwall, delivering individual and whole-class sessions in primary schools, as well as structured pathways into Rockschool and Trinity graded drum exams. Today, all of that experience feeds into my online small-group drum programmes, which are designed to give children clarity, confidence, and momentum. Many parents come to me because their child has just got a drum kit and doesn’t know where to start – or because previous lessons lacked structure and fizzled out. Children often lose motivation when they are left hopping between random YouTube videos with no feedback, no routine, and no sense of achievement. My teaching is deliberately designed to prevent that. Lessons run in small, focused groups (maximum of five students), with everyone working towards the same clear outcome. Grouping children by age and stage allows lessons to move at the right pace, encourages positive peer motivation, and helps students realise they are not alone in their challenges. This approach also builds confidence, listening skills, and musical discipline in a way that mirrors the best aspects of classroom learning – without the pressure of a large group. All online lessons are delivered using high-quality, multi-camera teaching setups so students can clearly see stick technique, footwork, coordination, and posture. Sessions are practical, interactive, and carefully scaffolded. Students are given guided practice tasks and supporting resources between lessons so progress continues beyond the screen. As a qualified primary school teacher, I am particularly experienced in working with children who need clear explanations, steady routines, and encouragement to stick with something when it becomes challenging. Parents often comment on my calm manner, consistency, and ability to keep children motivated without overwhelming them. My lessons are purposeful, but always positive. I am also the author of the “Be a Drummer” beginner series – a structured syllabus that takes children from complete beginner to confident, exam-ready performer. This framework underpins my teaching and ensures that every lesson fits into a coherent journey rather than feeling like a standalone activity. My aim is simple: to help children build real musical skills, confidence, and commitment through well-structured group drum lessons that deliver results. If you’re looking for online drum tuition for your child that is focused, supportive, and professionally led, you’re in the right place.
