About

About

Hello, I’m Jamie, a professional drummer based in Kent with my own studio.

I specialise in hard, heavy and occasionally very fast playing and have a range of experience working in professional studios with various bands. Before I got into the rock and metal scene I played jazz for two years in a band that toured the Isle of Wight. I then played metal for a few years and now typically play a lot more jazz, funk and pop as a freelance musician.

I love teaching a variety of genres and styles and am more than happy to teach any particular song or beat you might like to learn or work on any specific area of your choosing, be it stamina, footwork or finger technique, for example.

Availability

All day and evening most days – subject to availability because I gig and record! Please contact me and we can arrange something : )

Most students book weekly or fortnightly sessions but I’m happy to arrange as per your needs. £30 per hour, £20 per half hour. Introductory offer: half hour taster session only £10 or first hour only £25. PLUS, FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY, GET £10 OFF when you purchase a month of lessons in advance. (If you can’t make a lesson and are unable to reschedule, the lesson you’ve paid for carries over into next month).

I play, teach and record in my own professional studio near Tenterden, nine miles from Ashford. While most of my students come to me, I’m willing to travel within 10 miles for an additional £10 fee. And of course I offer virtual lessons too.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

Professionally, I’ve released an EP with Novacaine Nothing (Noughts & Crosses, 2015), a single with technical-metal band proxxy (Pathological Pursuits, 2018). I also recorded drums for rock band Night Thieves’ debut EP (Battle Cry, 2020).

I’ve also tracked drums for the immensely talented band Immortal Machinery for half of their prestigious album Lieder ohne Worte (Songs Without Words, 2020) and have toured with them extensively throughout Europe.

Most recently I wrote and tracked drums with the singer/songwriter Guy Prall (release TBA). You can find plenty of my work on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp… all the usual places. Alongside my freelance work I’m currently the house drummer for the popular monthly jazz and funk jam night in High Wycombe known as Catch-22 Jams.

Jamie has been teaching my 7 year old son brilliantly. He is friendly, engaging, and patient. He was very helpful and honest when I first approached him, has taken the time to get to know my son who likes him very much, and is teaching good form from the beginning. His practice studio is ideal for one to one lessons. We are very lucky to have a drum teacher of this calibre so close to us, and I would highly recommend him.

“I really enjoy my lessons with Jamie, he’s obviously very passionate about music and drumming in particular and his enthusiasm is infectious. He adapts easily to what I want to learn, provides sheet music for songs I request, identifies shortcomings in my technique / mistakes in my play to help me improve, and suggests useful exercises.”
