Melodi Scarsbrook — Vocalist, Pianist, Songwriter BA (Hons) Professional Musicianship "Melodi worked with me to improve areas of weakness in a way no teacher had before." With 8 years of teaching experience, I have worked at BIMM University and Bristol Metropolitan Academy alongside my private practice. My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals and musical interests, whether playing for enjoyment or preparing for exams and auditions. I also organise annual concerts, giving students the opportunity to develop their performance skills and confidence in a supportive environment. I began formal training in piano and voice at an early age and was awarded a scholarship to study at a specialist music school. This was followed by A Levels in Music, during which I achieved the highest performance grades (8) in both Piano and Singing. In 2018, I graduated from BIMM University with a focus on Popular Music Performance, Vocal Technique, Songwriting, and Teaching. After university, I spent time performing and releasing original music, some of which received airplay on BBC Radio Bristol. I am currently advancing my professional development through ongoing collaboration with West End voice specialists in London and by regularly attending masterclasses at the Voice Study Centre. With an extensive training in singing, acting and performing arts and over a decade of experience in education teaching students aged 7 to 70, I would love to help you on your singing journey in whatever form that might take! My singing teaching will focus on you, your practice and your goals. Many of my students are working towards exams of some kind but this is by no means a requirement. My main goal is to help you feel good about your voice and produce a sound in a healthy way whether it be for a choir solo, karaoke or your kitchen! I have worked with students from pre-grade 1 to above grade 8 so whatever your skill level, I can work with you. My background and training is primarily in musical theatre (my Wicked era has been going for over 20 years!!) but I also love working with pop, folk and other contemporary music. Most recently I have had a crash course in Kpop! My biggest passion is acting through song and I am a firm believe that finding what a song means to you and finding expression in a song will always add an extra boost to your performance. Your first lesson with me will start with a brief chat to discuss your previous experience (“none” is perfectly acceptable!) and what your goals are for your lessons. We will then do some simple warm up exercises before jumping into whatever your favourite song to sing! Whatever your confidence or skill level, we will go at your pace and put you on the path to success. When not singing teaching, I can be found running sitzprobe musical theatre events with Company Call Productions. This is a project very close to my heart and many of my students also take part in these events. For a crash course in sight reading, harmony learning and show repertoire, these events are an ideal proving ground for singers. I can also be found singing with my choir, Chepstow Musical Theatre Show Choir or at the odd open mic! I always encourage my students to find singing opportunities outside of their lessons to build stamina, confidence and to train your ear. Whilst most of my students are having ongoing lessons, I can also offer short term lessons, gift packages and one-off workshops. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs and we can work out a package that works for you. Message me today to start your vocal journey and I look forward to singing with you soon!

Singing lessons: what to expect
The best singing lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a coach who helps you build your voice safely and consistently. Search by location to find in-person singing lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist vocal coaches for pop, musical theatre, rock, classical, and exam preparation.
Singing lessons are for complete beginners through to experienced performers. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, and adults — whether you’re learning for fun, building confidence, joining a band or choir, or returning to singing after a break.
Most students work on breath control, pitch, tone, range, vocal agility, and song interpretation. A good vocal coach will also help you practise effectively, warm up safely, and build vocal stamina — so you improve without strain.
Online singing lessons can be highly effective for technique, consistency, and flexible scheduling — especially with an experienced coach. In-person lessons can feel more immersive and are great if you prefer face-to-face feedback and hands-on guidance.
A simple learning path for singing
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Learn healthy breathing, posture, warm-ups, and simple exercises to improve pitch accuracy and reduce strain while building confidence.
Develop stronger breath support, resonance and tone control, smoother transitions between registers, and start expanding your usable range.
Improve vocal agility, dynamics, phrasing and expression, build stamina for longer songs, and develop performance skills — tailored to your style and goals.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- No kit required: you can start with your voice, a phone recorder, and a quiet room.
- Hydration and warm-ups matter more than volume — good singing is built on consistency, not pushing.
- If learning online: headphones and a stable internet connection make lessons smoother.
