I have a wide range of teaching experience from big groups to individual lessons. I studied musical composition and musical theatre singing at the BRIT School and then at Rose Bruford College where I did an Actor Musician BA Hons degree. I have performed in the West End with Dreamboats and Petticoats when I was the keyboard player. I then became the Musical Director for the show when it toured in the UK. I have also been the MD for various other shows such as Cats (Theatre Royal Windsor) and Oklahoma! (Hong Kong) I have arranged music for a number of professional singers and bands and recently, I spent six months teaching singing for the Centrestage Academy in Hong Kong. I am involved with a number of different bands playing a wide range of musical style. A particularly interesting job was as the musical director and conductor for the popular Christmas festival of carols at Emmanuel Church in Croydon. More recently I have been teaching the piano on Zoom, adapting my style to suit the needs of my pupils. Some want to play from memory, some want to work on improvising skills and others want to play in bands. Music Qualifications & Achievements: Dreamboats and Petticoats (West End), Buddy Holly: Musical Director (Theatre Royal Windsor) Save The Last Dance For Me: Assistant MD (UK Tour) Dreamboats and Miniskirts: Assistant MD (UK Tour) Dreamboats And Petticoats: Musical Director (UK Tour) The Wind In The Willows: Assistant MD (Germany Tour) and The Rudi Vaselino’s (Henley Festival) Grade 8 Piano, Grade 5 Theory, Grade 7 Violin Pianist on the album, “Better Get in Line” by Max Runham
Sam read Music at the University of Manchester during which he developed his primary skills as a pianist Upon graduating in 2013, he moved to Ely and then Oxford, becoming a Bass Lay Clerk at cathedrals in both cities. Whilst living in Oxford Sam developed a thriving teaching practice both freelance and employed as an academic music tutor at Oxford Tutorial College. Today, Sam resides in South East London and leads a busy career as a singer, pianist and a teacher. Since moving to London in 2016, Sam has performed frequently with many of the UK’s leading choirs, including The Sixteen, The BBC Singers and Tenebrae. He spent seven and a half years singing with the acclaimed vocal group The Gesualdo Six, recording nine albums and performing to audiences across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. As well as cultivating his deep love for ensemble singing, he unexpectedly came out of the group instilled with a passion for cricket. Sam’s teaching aims to promote an efficient and flexible technique that serves the narrative of the music, whilst instilling and nurturing a fun and individual learning process for each student.
Hello my name is Franck Alba. I am a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter music teacher and producer. Born in France but a resident of South London since the 1990’s, I have etched out a formidable portfolio, which includes recording with the seminal DJ/producer Andrew Weatherall and with my own groups, Low Road and Fireflies (the latter’s music was recently featured in the popular BBC One tv series, ‘Killing Eve‘). As a member of the Anglo-French ghostrock group, Piano Magic, from 2002 to 2016, I toured numerous times across the Continent and played as far and wide as Moscow and Istanbul. I am also featured on six of the band’s studio albums and a whole plethora of associated recordings, collaborating with the likes of Dead Can Dance, Low, John Grant and Vashti Bunyan. Though I began studying violin at the age of six, I fell headfirst in love with guitars in my early teens. At 16, heavily influenced by artists such as The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, Nick Drake, The Durutti Column and many more, I formed my first bands, ‘Siamese Angels’ and ‘Something Else’ . Before long, whilst studying at the jazz music school IMFP in Salon de Provence, I began playing professional concerts around his native south of France. On moving to London in the late 90’s, I joined various short-lived bands and cut my teeth playing extensively on the city’s buzzing live circuit. My most recent work includes writing and recording for Theory of ghosts EP 1 & 2 (2019-2020) and a full Album coming out January 2026, recording sessions for Andrew Weatherall’s 2014-2019, acclaimed solo album ‘Convenanza’ ,various remixes and live performances with the Woodleigh Research Facility (WRF). I am currently collaborating with innumerable artists, singer-songwriters, film makers alongside working on my solo albums. I have been teaching guitar, bass, drums, singing, music theory and improvisation for more than 20 years beside my own music career.

I have performed in the Royal Opera House, Royal Albert Hall and venues across the UK and Europe. Garnering rave reviews such as ‘Vocally plumtious’, by Hugh Canning in The Sunday Times and ‘chameleonic’ by The Spectator. “Catherine Young almost stole the show as a regulation traumatised, serially drunk and abused Pauline – bringing some point and many diversions to a cipherish character”- Opera Now Alongside my career as a performer, I have enjoyed teaching and passing on the joy of singing to many. I think music is healing and collaborative, and I wish to spread the knowledge I have gained from devoting my life to it. Singing lessons: what to expect
Singing lessons near you
The best singing lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a coach who helps you build your voice safely and consistently. Search by location to find in-person singing lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist vocal coaches for pop, musical theatre, rock, classical, and exam preparation.
Who singing lessons are for
Singing lessons are for complete beginners through to experienced performers. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, and adults — whether you’re learning for fun, building confidence, joining a band or choir, or returning to singing after a break.
What you’ll learn in singing lessons
Most students work on breath control, pitch, tone, range, vocal agility, and song interpretation. A good vocal coach will also help you practise effectively, warm up safely, and build vocal stamina — so you improve without strain.
Online vs in-person singing lessons
Online singing lessons can be highly effective for technique, consistency, and flexible scheduling — especially with an experienced coach. In-person lessons can feel more immersive and are great if you prefer face-to-face feedback and hands-on guidance.
A simple learning path for singing
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Learn healthy breathing, posture, warm-ups, and simple exercises to improve pitch accuracy and reduce strain while building confidence.
Develop stronger breath support, resonance and tone control, smoother transitions between registers, and start expanding your usable range.
Improve vocal agility, dynamics, phrasing and expression, build stamina for longer songs, and develop performance skills — tailored to your style and goals.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- No kit required: you can start with your voice, a phone recorder, and a quiet room.
- Hydration and warm-ups matter more than volume — good singing is built on consistency, not pushing.
- If learning online: headphones and a stable internet connection make lessons smoother.
Styles & goals your teacher can support
Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.
