Hi, I’m Chloe Payne, a vocalist, songwriter, and singing teacher based near Reading/Basingstoke. My background in music began with musical theatre training when I was at school and college, I remember being super inspired when I watched Les Mis in the West End and deciding to take singing lessons! Alongside my training I performed in many local productions including playing ‘Nancy’ in ‘Oliver’, ‘Rizzo’ in ‘Grease’, however over the years I began to lean towards contemporary music. I pursued my passion at Queen Mary’s College on the BTEC Music Certificate course, and then at the Academy of Contemporary Music where I graduated with First Class Honours. Throughout my degree, I studied under Jono McNeil (The Voice Vocal Coach, Paloma Faith) Brian Henry (Soul II Soul, Lalah Hathaway, Omar), and Helena May (Heather Small). During my time at university, I gained a wide range of experience in live performance and gained the technical skills to become a versatile and confident vocalist, specialising in pop, rock, and soul. I completed a module on music education where I got a lot of experience of one-to-one teaching! I also learnt about recording at home and in a studio, as well as important business elements to the industry. Since graduating I have been writing and recording lots of original music, as well as collaborating with other musicians on their projects! I have experience of teaching full bands of children in primary schools (Rocksteady Music School), one-to-one singing lessons to various age groups and experience levels, as well as knowledge of music theory, songwriting, and creating vocal arrangements (Rock Choir). I would love to help students of all ages and abilities to improve their skills as a singer in a fun and relaxed environment either online or in-person! I’m happy to work with you towards music grades, audition prep, or just for fun- so please get in touch as I’d love to work with you! Music Qualifications & Achievements: BA (First Class Honours) Music Industry Practice (Vocals) BTEC Certificate in Music (Distinction*) LAMDA Grade 6 Musical Theatre (Distinction) I am a keen songwriter and my songs have been featured on many UK radio stations including BBC radio’s track of the day, which is something I’m very proud of!

Singing lessons: what to expect

Singing lessons near you

The best singing lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a coach who helps you build your voice safely and consistently. Search by location to find in-person singing lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist vocal coaches for pop, musical theatre, rock, classical, and exam preparation.

Who singing lessons are for

Singing lessons are for complete beginners through to experienced performers. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, and adults — whether you’re learning for fun, building confidence, joining a band or choir, or returning to singing after a break.

What you’ll learn in singing lessons

Most students work on breath control, pitch, tone, range, vocal agility, and song interpretation. A good vocal coach will also help you practise effectively, warm up safely, and build vocal stamina — so you improve without strain.

Online vs in-person singing lessons

Online singing lessons can be highly effective for technique, consistency, and flexible scheduling — especially with an experienced coach. In-person lessons can feel more immersive and are great if you prefer face-to-face feedback and hands-on guidance.

A simple learning path for singing

A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.

Weeks 1–4: Breath, pitch & confidence
1

Learn healthy breathing, posture, warm-ups, and simple exercises to improve pitch accuracy and reduce strain while building confidence.

Months 2–3: Control, tone & range
2

Develop stronger breath support, resonance and tone control, smoother transitions between registers, and start expanding your usable range.

Months 3–6: Style, performance & stamina
3

Improve vocal agility, dynamics, phrasing and expression, build stamina for longer songs, and develop performance skills — tailored to your style and goals.

Getting started: what you need

Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.

  • No kit required: you can start with your voice, a phone recorder, and a quiet room.
  • Hydration and warm-ups matter more than volume — good singing is built on consistency, not pushing.
  • If learning online: headphones and a stable internet connection make lessons smoother.

Styles & goals your teacher can support

Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.
