Hello! I am Joejoe Chow, a Hong Kong-based professional guitar tutor, music producer, and the founder of Grass Type Music. With 20 years of dedicated guitar teaching experience, I am passionate about helping students of all ages and skill levels discover their unique musical voice. Concurrently serving as a Music Supervisor at Universal Production Music, I bring a wealth of practical, real-world industry experience into every lesson.

20 Years of Teaching Experience Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of guiding countless students on their musical journeys. I primarily conduct face-to-face lessons in my fully equipped private studio, providing a focused and professional environment. My teaching experience spans across various formats—from highly personalized 1-on-1 private lessons and small group instrument classes to dynamic band coaching and in-school guitar programs. No matter the setting, my goal is to create an engaging and supportive atmosphere for musical growth.

My Teaching Philosophy: Driven by Your Passion My teaching approach is highly student-centric. I firmly believe that learning is most effective and enjoyable when it starts with the music you actually love. My core philosophy is to tailor my teaching to your specific interests and preferred genres. While establishing a solid foundation of basic techniques, rhythm, and theory is absolutely essential, we will always build those fundamentals through the songs and styles that inspire you the most.

For Hobbyists and Exam Candidates Alike Every student has a different goal. As an RSL-registered teacher holding a Rockschool Grade 8 certification in electric guitar and an RSL Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Music and Performing Arts Learning, I actively encourage and meticulously prepare students who wish to pursue formal Rockschool grading exams.

However, I also understand that many students play purely for the joy of music. If your goal is simply to strum your favorite tunes, relieve stress, or play as a hobby, you are incredibly welcome here. There is no pressure—we will move at your pace and focus on what makes playing the guitar fun for you.

A Broad Musical Perspective Because of my background as an active music producer and composer (and a Full Member of CASH), our lessons can go beyond just hitting the right notes.
