I am a new music tutor hoping to build up a base of enthusiastic students of all ages. I have experience in education having spent 5 years as a Learning Support Assistant at South Nottingham College supporting SEN students in both mainstream and specialist lessons. While working in this position, I spent 2 terms leading a small percussion group, this included studying and learning basic djembe techniques and teaching them to a group of 10 students and also planning, rehearsing and leading a group performance. I have also spent the last 5 years working as a support worker for a learning disabled charity as well as for private clients. While carrying out this role I supported in and conducted basic subject lessons including music, dance, art, cooking and sports. In the past I have conducted free drum tuition lessons for various friends and family members. I am an active member of several bands, performing regular paid gigs including a weekly residency. I have delivered freelance drum workshops to FE music students at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies and I currently work for SEND, a community arts organisation based in Sneinton where I perform several roles including musical instrument tutor and music teacher. In this role I have been tutoring young beginners in the drum kit, bass guitar, guitar and piano. Music Qualifications & Achievements: I have a NCOM diploma in Music in Context which I achieved after attending the British Academy of New Music in London and Broxtowe College in Nottingham. I am currently studying to achieve my drumming and music theory grades.

Drum lessons are taught on an acoustic drum kit in a fully equipped studio teaching space in Derby. My aim as a teacher is provide a relaxed and supportive environment where students can develop real life musical skills and above all, a passion for drumming. No two students are the same and lessons are tailored to suit the needs, goals and learning styles of the individual pupils, whether that be to take graded exams, play in a band or simply to learn a new skill and have fun! For those wishing to take graded exams, I teach the Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop syllabuses and can prepare students for either face-to-face or recorded exam submissions. I am proud to say that a number of my students have gone on to study music based subjects in further education settings and have successfully auditioned for specialist institutions such as the Birmingham Junior Conservatoire. I hold student showcase concerts twice a year providing performance opportunities for students at all levels and I also help students create high quality recorded performance videos that they can share with friends and family. There is no minimum (or maximum!) age to begin learning to play the drums with me. Lessons with the youngest pupils will focus mainly on simple time keeping and rhythm skills will prepare them for more complex drumming as they progress. Adult learners are also very welcome and I am a firm believer of that it is never too late to learn! I myself started taking piano lessons as an adult so when you feel like you’ve hit a wall or have had a busy week and struggled to fit the practice in, believe me when I say … I get it! Qualifications: MA Music Management, BA Popular and World Musics, RSL Grade 8 Drums, ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory
MM Drum School® was founded by Derby drummer Michael Moore in 2014. It all started when Michael was in his last years of a music course at Derby College. During that time, he was performing regularly, gigging three times a week on some occasions. Music has sustained Michael throughout many difficult years at school. He has used music to overcome many barriers of his own and didn't give up despite battling lifelong health conditions. Inspiring others to follow his footsteps he greatly enjoys teaching and has much experience working as a peripatetic teacher in special needs schools. Michael wanted to unite passions using his entrepreneurial talents to create a business where he can discover other people's talents. With support from The Prince's Trust's explore enterprise program in Derby, he established MM Drum School®. He says, "My business mentor played a huge part in helping me to get to where I am today. Everybody wants to do what they are passionate about and I’m grateful that I can do just that." MM Drum School® has achieved above expectation and has provided many people across Derby personal development which, they otherwise wouldn't have had access too. Besides offering popular main stream drum kit and percussion lessons, MM Drum School® has a unique SEN strand to the business. Our bespoke tailor made drumming therapy supports children, young people and adults with various disabilities and health conditions. A truly holistic healing approach, drumming breaks down social barriers, promotes freedom of expression, non-verbal communication. Following several award nominations and finals, Michael expanded MM Drum School® in 2017. Moving into a new purpose-built facility in Derby City Centre was an important milestone and a step in the right direction. Michael's brother Matt joined MM Drum School® as an Administrator/Technician playing a vital role in infrastructure development. New services opened such as Music Tech, African Djembe Workshops, Online Sessions. In February 2023 Michael moved MM Drum School® into Derby’s Cathedral Quarter. This move was a key milestone in securing longevity and sustainability for the school. Michael restructured his team improving consistency, integrity and strength overall. The new facility in the Cathedral Quarter is smart, clean and very professional. It’s also got a lot of character as it’s a Grade 2 listed Georgian Era building. MM Drum School® is celebrating it's 10-year anniversary which is something we are all very proud of. Michael has a 100% exam pass record and has entered hundreds of students in drum exams for over a decade.
