I have been utterly invested in music since my early adolescence, starting out initially as a drummer and then moving into a study of harmony and composition during my years studying at a contemporary music academy developed my love for piano playing. I am active as a touring and session musician, having toured the world playing with various acts and being recognised for my abilities as a composer in 2017 when an album I composed was charted at #6 and #10 respectively on Billboard’s hard rock and new artist charts. I have been invested in teaching music for roughly three years now. My approach is based on an integrated understanding of music theory designed to equip my students with a deep understanding not only of the science of harmony but of the science of learning how to acquire new skills, informed by a wealth of modern discovery and understanding. This allows my students to be able to think musically and develop intuition so that they can be free to define their own personal relationship with music. I have a vast array of musical experience across different instruments as well as musical theory, composition and analysis. While I'm not a professional level performer on all the instruments I play, I'm a constant learner myself and put this at the heart of my teaching. I like to make learning fun and enjoyable and try to be as flexible as I can be with what I teach. I tend to anchor my teaching around the RSL or ABRSM grade structures, but students always have a choice as to whether they want to pursue grades or not. I am also happy to work outside of the syllabus, just let me know what piece you'd like to work on and I'll do my best to support you! I'm very happy to travel to you for lessons. I live in a terraced house, so it can be tricky to teach at home with a five year old running around, but if you need to come to me, let me know and I'm sure we can sort something out.
