I've spent the last eight years teaching with Newham Music Service, where I currently lead their Music Technology programme, as well as teach a mixture of 1-to-1’s and large groups of all ages and settings. Alongside a decade of my own career as a signed touring musician. My approach to teaching and making music has become part of the same practice — one where technical skill and genuine connection with the person in front of you both matter. Most of my teaching happens in community and school settings across a wide range of ages and backgrounds, including students who don't always find it easy to engage with formal education. I run weekly music technology groups where students write, record and produce their own tracks from scratch, and I've found that real progress — musical and personal — tends to come from building trust first: getting to know how someone works, what motivates them, and where they need more space or more structure. Some of my proudest moments as a teacher have been watching a student who initially felt music education "wasn't for them" go on to perform live at a showcase. For students working toward exams, I follow the relevant syllabus closely and build lessons around steady, confidence-building progression toward Grade 8. For students without exam goals — which is most of the young people I teach — I focus on developing their own creative voice, whether that means writing lyrics, producing a beat, or getting comfortable performing in front of others for the first time. My own musical background led me to release music through labels including Polydor, touring the UK and Europe including performances at Reading & Leeds and Pitchfork Paris festivals, plus performing sessions for BBC Radio 1. I’ve worked alongside world-leading musicians and producers, and I now produce music for independent artists from my own studio. I bring that experience directly into my teaching, making music & production accessible at whatever level a student is starting from. I hold a PGCert in Performance Teaching from Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and I'm about to begin an MComp there. Across both my teaching and my own practice, I've become especially interested in relational, trauma-informed approaches that support young people who don't always feel safe or welcome in arts education — without that support coming at the expense of high-quality musical teaching. I'm currently taking on a small number of new private students in the SE15 area. I'm DBS checked and happy to discuss lesson format — at a home studio, at the student's home, or online. Hello my name is Franck Alba. I am a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter music teacher and producer. Born in France but a resident of South London since the 1990’s, I have etched out a formidable portfolio, which includes recording with the seminal DJ/producer Andrew Weatherall and with my own groups, Low Road and Fireflies (the latter’s music was recently featured in the popular BBC One tv series, ‘Killing Eve‘). As a member of the Anglo-French ghostrock group, Piano Magic, from 2002 to 2016, I toured numerous times across the Continent and played as far and wide as Moscow and Istanbul. I am also featured on six of the band’s studio albums and a whole plethora of associated recordings, collaborating with the likes of Dead Can Dance, Low, John Grant and Vashti Bunyan. Though I began studying violin at the age of six, I fell headfirst in love with guitars in my early teens. At 16, heavily influenced by artists such as The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, Nick Drake, The Durutti Column and many more, I formed my first bands, ‘Siamese Angels’ and ‘Something Else’ . Before long, whilst studying at the jazz music school IMFP in Salon de Provence, I began playing professional concerts around his native south of France. On moving to London in the late 90’s, I joined various short-lived bands and cut my teeth playing extensively on the city’s buzzing live circuit. My most recent work includes writing and recording for Theory of ghosts EP 1 & 2 (2019-2020) and a full Album coming out January 2026, recording sessions for Andrew Weatherall’s 2014-2019, acclaimed solo album ‘Convenanza’ ,various remixes and live performances with the Woodleigh Research Facility (WRF). I am currently collaborating with innumerable artists, singer-songwriters, film makers alongside working on my solo albums. I have been teaching guitar, bass, drums, singing, music theory and improvisation for more than 20 years beside my own music career.

Hello, My name is Cristina. I am Portuguese, living in London since 2020, also with other living experiences in London, especially as a Music and Instrument Teacher at the Students. I can teach speaking in English or Portuguese or French. If the Students prefer, I can also rent a Music room for the Lessons, with a Piano. The Students chose the Programs they wish to follow. It can be with preparation for ABRSM or TRINITY Exams, in Instrument and Music Theory, etc. Or a free Program that I will adapt related to each Student. If wished, I also prepare the Students for Concerts for the end of each School Term: Christmas, Easter and end of School Year, for the Students to perform with me for their families and friends. I also teach and support on Composition / Music Theory. Hello! My name is Lavinia and I am a classical violinist and violin teacher! I completed my Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone, London. I am passionate about sharing music with others particularly through teaching and mentoring musicians of all ages. I have been teaching for 7+ years and work with musicians of all levels and ages. I am happy to teach students with a variety of goals for their musical development. Whether for a hobby or more serious involvement, I will put my utmost effort into providing unique lessons directed towards your individual learning style and objectives! My biography can be found below: From Romania to Canada and finally to London, Ana-Lavinia Vlad has migrated to many stages and teachers in order to feed her love of music. Lavinia completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Professors Joshua Fisher and Remus Azoitei. She received the Clarence Myerscough Centenary Award for her performance in her undergraduate final recital and was welcomed back to continue her studies at the Academy in the Master of Arts programme. She has had the pleasure of playing alongside the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall and has had various performances in London’s Cadogan Hall, St. Paul’s Covent Garden, and multiple popular concert venues. She has also had the opportunity to work with amazing musicians and conductors, including Sir Mark Elder, Robert Trevino, Thomas Gould, Jac van Steen, and Marin Alsop. In 2014, Lavinia had her solo debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, alongside American conductor John Morris Russell at the Centre in the Square, which is regarded as “one of the finest performance spaces in North America”. Following her debut, she was invited back to perform with the orchestra on multiple occasions, playing prominent repertoires such as Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and the Sibelius Violin Concerto. Lavinia has won numerous Canadian awards from the Kiwanis Music Festival, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra, and various competitions she has attended. She has also, for multiple years, been a top prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition. In London, she enjoys performing alongside the Ivor Trio and has participated in countless orchestral performances, many times leading orchestras such as the Horton Chamber Orchestra. Teaching Approach: When I begin teaching an individual, I make sure that I inspire them and teach them the value and beauty of music. I am very thorough about teaching technique properly so that it will last and be an asset in one’s musical future, but I still like to keep my students on their toes and excited about actually making music and adding life to the notes they draw out of their instruments. Each individual is different and has different goals they wish to achieve with their playing; thus, for me, it is very important to establish a connection with my students and cater each lesson to their specific needs and learning style. I am fully DBS checked and can provide certification upon request.

From attending The Menuhin School for 11 years, studying the violin as my main instrument, I was inspired by my tutors around me. They taught me the importance of being a well-rounded person, letting my other interests and the way I interacted with people help shape my musicianship. I grew to have a love for teaching when I was given the opportunity to teach at a local primary school. Since then, I have been teaching privately and growing my student base. It has been exciting for me to see how I have developed strong transferable skills over the years from my musical training and how I can help nurture those same skills within my pupils. It gives me great pleasure to see them flourish not only in their musical endeavours but also other areas of their lives.
