About Phil Dawson

Phil Dawson is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader and recording artist as well as a fully qualified teacher. As an artist he releases music on Funkiwala/Kudos Records as well as independently. He learned his craft playing with artists from hugely diverse traditions, from British Jazz to Nigerian to Bangladeshi to Brazilian, performing on 5 continents in the process. Phil has himself studied with several top artists such as Mike Walker (Impossible Gentlemen, George Russell) and John Etheridge (Soft Machine).

Phil has taught at all levels of music education up to BA, and is co-author of ‘How to Use Popular Chords’, ‘Guitar Strumming Patterns’ (both Flametree Publishing) and author of ‘Chordal Harmony for Electronic Music’ (e-course, Sonic Academy.) He has taught at BIMM, Hackney College and London College of Contemporary Music and has a PGCert from Sussex University. He coaches privately as well as running Logic Pro courses locally.

As a recording artist, Phil and his music have appeared on various BBC shows, Jazz FM and many international stations; other compositions of his are published by Sony BMG, Warner Chappell, De Wolfe and Audio Network.
