Yes I agree, if everything is set out in writing before they start, then students can’t really say anything about policy etc – I’ve had one situation very similar before and it was horrible but 99.9% of students are lovely, and understand the policy and cancellation terms- and are fine with it!

    Hey Steph,

I would advise her to see her GP who can then refer her to an ENT specialist.

No it’s pretty straight forward on contracts. One site is like a platform/ where if an act accepts and books a gig then a set booking fee is generated and invoiced to the act- this is at the point of the act and client both confirming the band. I think the terms and conditions are all pre-set out between the site and act and once you pay the booking fee- you are agreeing to the terms. We do a deposit with the client, so that even if they do cancel after the booking fee is paid- we are not out of pocket as the deposit has covered the booking fee we’ve paid if that makes sense?

In this instance, the booking fee is quite minimal so I think it works well, let me know any other questions about this type of stuff – happy to help if I can x

    Hey Tom

This sounds like a great new platform! I always like the idea of something made ‘by artists- for artists!’

To answer your question, over the years we have enjoyed working with various agents. Some have taken far too steep cuts for their services, and others have been more fair in their booking fee/ commission (10-15%) so they are the ones we continue to work with. I think it’s important for any platform to be very transparent and user friendly from the act and also the clients point of view.

Booking terms should be clear cut- so everyone knows where they stand on T&C’s (including the agent). They are some of the things we have liked about our agents. Hope that helps and I look forward to seeing how Gigstarter progresses!

    Hey Gemma,

Love Eliza’s tips- would definitely agree with all the above! I would also get her to speak the lyrics (without singing) in her own accent (whatever that may be) and then sing straight away keeping the accent exactly the same as when she spoke the lines aloud. Even doing just a few lines at a time- she will start to recognise how she naturally pronounces words. Taking on an accent can be due to listening to so much i.e. American singing – but also being insecure in using own voice- feeling it’s not good enough for example so I would be ultra encouraging when she does achieve a natural accent and make her feel comfortable with her own accent! Hope this helps x

Hey lovely:) I had someone similar – firstly get the vocal chords to connect on each note with a clean/sharp onset – so kind of stacatta scales. Breathy style can be nice but the breathe on the chords can be affecting hugely the precision. Also recapping the intervals of an 8 note major scale and addressing where semi tones are etc. then I know it’s tedious testing him on the intervals of maybe the first line of a song.. Hope that helps:)

  • Love the vowel tree! Having some visual aids are good – printed diagrams of some points or a large white board – people often respond well to visual prompts- so might benefit if you have the time / resources xx

Yeah if we’re working in vowels, it contorts kind of from the middle / tip. She plays alot of cricket and her natural stance has become a little twisted so I don’t know how much this is impacting the tongue/ neck muscles – I’ve never seen this?

Is there aaaaaany way you think we could all get together and meet up one day… I think it would be fascinating to hear each others backgrounds/methods etc – and potentially start creating a slightly unified system- (might be jumping the gun there!)- would be so lovely though to meet every-one!

Matt Pocock I love this! Do you mind if I use bits from it as I’m trying to put something really structured together for a 2nd teacher here- and also as I read through and think of bits I could add from my programme- I’ll send over- or has it already gone to print?

  • Hey Matt, I like ‘speech level singing’ and recently started getting into the Estill Model- kind of take the bits I like from both and add my own bits
