Julian is a multi instrumentalist, educator, music producer and song writer based in Perth, Western Australia. At 15 years old Julian was accepted into the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts on jazz and contemporary guitar. Shortly after this he started performing around Perth in original blues, jazz and rock bands, eventually touring in the US and around Australia. These tours included festival lineups alongside world class blues artists such as Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Mavis Staples and Beth Hart.
Julian has written and recorded several studio albums with bands Old Blood and The Southern River Band. Old Blood has been awarded the West Australian Music Award’s Best Blues and Roots Artist in both 2016 and 2017. Julian was also part of the one of kind “Live Support Acts” YouTube campaign with the Southern River Band, a Universal Music and Wrigley’s venture that reached millions of viewers.
Since 2008 Julian has been teaching in schools and privately around Perth in guitar, bass, drums and song writing. Julian started his Rockschool examining career in 2014 and has examined interstate in Australia. He is now a member of the Australian Music Examinations Board Advisory Committee in Western Australia which focuses on delivering Rockschool exams around the state.
Julian’s latest album “Rumour and Innuendo” from the Southern River Band is now available for streaming on Spotify and he’s currently working writing, recording and producing his new solo project Sad King Billy for release in 2020.
