Singing and improvisation

I have over 25 years’ teaching experience with complete beginners, improving singers and professional performers in all contemporary styles, including pop, rock, soul, jazz and musical theatre. (I don’t teach opera or classical singing.) My approach combines voice science with practical, repertoire-led work. The aim is always to keep your voice healthy while you build the knowledge, confidence and artistry to sing the way you want. Depending on your goals, lessons can cover breathing and support, pitch and timing, range and registers, tone and resonance, vocal health, style and interpretation, vocal improvisation and scat, microphone technique and performance skills. Music theory is part of every lesson, so you understand why something works as well as how to do it.

Logic Pro, mixing, editing, mastering and production

I completed the HOFA-College Audio Engineering Diploma and have worked as a mixing and mastering engineer and vocal producer since 2020. I teach Logic Pro, mixing, editing, mastering and music production, as well as recording techniques, including choosing and placing microphones and recording vocals and instruments at home. I also teach podcasting: how to record, edit and polish spoken voice so it sounds clear and professional.

Guitar, songwriting and theory

I teach electric guitar up to Grade 5 RockSchool (RSL Awards). I also teach songwriting, music theory, harmony and arranging, whether you want to pass an exam, understand the music you love or write your own songs.

My background

I hold a PGCert in Vocal Pedagogy (Distinction) from Cardiff Metropolitan University and a First Class Honours degree in Jazz Music (Voice). I’m a member of NATS, the British Voice Association and the Musicians’ Union. Since 2013 I’ve taught singing at WM College in London, where my courses include Contemporary Commercial Music, beginners, musical theatre and songwriting, and I stage the end-of-term student performances. Former students have gone on to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and professional touring productions. I’ve also led workshops for singers and singing teachers, presented at voice conferences and published research on singing pedagogy.

A working singer and recording artist

I’m an active jazz vocalist and recording artist. I’ve performed at Ronnie Scott’s and the 606 Club in London and on Italian national television, and I’ve recorded and released four albums. I also record voice work for companies, including adverts and other commercial projects. So when we work on your voice, you’re learning from someone who sings and records professionally.

Accessible lessons

I teach blind and partially sighted students to use VoiceOver and Logic Pro, and I publish accessible Logic Pro tutorials on YouTube. I also teach adults with learning disabilities. Every student is welcome, and I adapt my teaching to the way you learn best.

What to expect

Every lesson is built around you: your voice, your goals and the music you love. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, an exam or a gig, recording your first song or starting a podcast, or you just want to sing with more freedom and confidence, I’ll give you clear, practical steps and support you all the way.

Get in touch to book your first lesson. I look forward to hearing you!
