I am a singing teacher living in Cardiff who studied BA (Hons) in Popular Music at Nexus Institute of Creative Arts, after earning a Foundation Degree in Primary Education from Northampton University. My passion and experience for both music and educating children are brought together in singing lessons. To help students develop their voice I draw upon my wide-ranging knowledge of vocal techniques, theory and performance skills. My lessons are grounded in my degree studies which included performing solo, performing in a band, music theory, musicianship and understanding of styles. I also have training in studio recording and love students to have the chance to record their songs to take home. My approach to lessons is to nurture joy for music and singing. To do this I make the lessons fun and engaging with lessons uniquely tailored to the student’s areas of interest, whether this be Pop, Musical Theatre, Indie, Rock, Disney or Country. My teaching experience ranges from 1 to 1 teaching, classroom-teaching and running workshops with children and so I can adapt the lessons to how each individual learns with my wide range of teaching methods. Though I have a great passion for seeing children succeed and enjoying music, I do also teach all ages as I believe music and singing is for everyone. Being able to bring someone’s individual voice out and help them find who they are when they sing is the best reward a teacher could ask for! Music Qualifications & Achievements: BA (Hons) Popular Music (Vocals) A-Level Music Grade 6 Piano My performance highlights include singing alongside Kingdom Choir in Birmingham Arena, performing as a member of Only Boys Aloud, playing the lead role in Convicted 2018 and 2019, and being a runner up in the University Gospel Choir of the Year Competition 2018.

I am passionate about teaching music in an enjoyable way to push students to their full potential, whether music is for pleasure or a career. I have an ABRSM grade 8 piano certificate and an ABRSM grade 7 music theory certificate, as well as a BMus from Cardiff University. I am a freelance musician and songwriter.
Hello My name is Hugh Strathern. I am a professional singing teacher based in Cardiff. Fortunate enough to have spent ten years working as a member of Only Men Aloud, I have plenty of experience which informs my teaching and helps my students. I offer singing lessons for all ages and abilities, teaching people who want to pass exams, or for those preparing for auditions, or people who just want to sing because they enjoy it - for the love of singing. I cater all my lessons towards the aims of the student. Pretty much whatever you want to sing I am willing to teach you, as over the years I have taught, which is more than 15 years now, I have taught most genres of singing from classical and opera, to legit and contemporary music theatre, pop, R&B, jazz, soul, funk, rock and heavy metal. I also teach the piano and keyboard skills as well as music theory to intermediate and advanced levels. All my lessons are taught in a relaxed, informal style at my home studio in Cardiff. My background is manily in classical music and classical contemporary crossover. After studying for a Masters degree in music, I completed a Postgraduate diploma in vocal studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. After my studies, I worked as a chorister for the BBC National Chorus of Wales, Welsh National Opera, the Swansea Bach Choir, Bournmouth Symphony Chorus, the Three Choirs Festival and the John S Davies Singers. I was lucky and privileged enough to be a member of Only Men Aloud for over ten years, during which time, I had the opportunity to record two albums on major record labels (Sony and Decca), take part in numerous national and international tours, as well as TV broadcasts, sing in the opening ceremony of the Olympics and win a Classical BRIT, not to mention The BBCs Last Choir Standing competition in 2008! My varied performmance experience has been invaluable in terms of being able to impart knowledge and guidance to my students over the years, whatever their aims. I have a particular interest in singing techniques and in helping people improve this, whether to get better in general or just to be able to sing that one high note that always seems to be out of reach. Sometimes people come with vocal issues issues as well, such as hoarseness, loss of voice, breathiness and huskiness and loss of range. All of these things can be improved by singing lessons and it's always a joy to see a student able to either gain or get their own voice and confidence back, or be even better! I look forward to hearing from you! Music Qualifications: MMus Music Performance UEA 2000 PGDip Vocal studies 2004
Hello! My name is Amy Logan and I am a 21-year-old flute/piccolo and singing teacher from Scotland. I am currently a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I am developing both my performance skills and my musical versatility and I am part of the BBC national chorus of wales! I can teach beginners, grade 1-8 and anyone who just wants to learn an instrument for fun! Alongside my studies, I work as a swimming teacher and lifeguard, as well as a flute teacher, roles which have strengthened my sense of responsibility, communication skills and ability to support people in achieving their goals. I am passionate about fostering both confidence and strong technique in my students, creating a positive learning environment tailored to each individual. I believe a student learns best when they are encouraged and motivated so my techniques are always about creating a positive environment and inspiring students to succeed and fulfil their full potential whether that is playing their favourite songs, completing an exam or focusing on technique and music theory. My teaching methodology is very structured and sequential so we are always revising knowledge and building at the speed that is suitable to the student. My teaching is also goal based, thinking about long term and short term milestones and reinforcing the positivity with every goal achieved. My methodology is a mix between different pedagogies and I focus on singing and clapping as a way of learning and understanding music, rhythms, phrases, pitch, patterns, tempo and dynamics as it helps to include your body in the musical experience as well as your instrument. I can teach in many ways for example aurally, visually and kinaesthetically. My method focuses on enjoyment and being collaborative and creating an enjoyable and meaningful experience for all. Lessons can be from 30 minutes minimum to 1hr 15 maximum I have a lot of experience in teaching through university as I have studied a teaching module for two years which discusses the methodology behind teaching, the psychology of teaching and I have received training and experience within the community, university and a few 1-1 students! I am also a STA swimming teacher/STA Disability swimming teacher for kids from the age of 3 up until 100! My lessons are for anyone as young as 7 up until the age of 100! These lessons are for anyone of any ability who has an interest in flute and piccolo and wants to share their wonderful musical passion with me!

Piano lessons: what to expect
Piano lessons near you
Great piano lessons combine structured technical development with repertoire that inspires you. Search by location to find local teachers for in-person tuition, or choose online lessons to access specialist tutors in your chosen style.
Who piano lessons are for
Piano suits learners of all ages — children, teens, adults and returning players. Lessons can be tailored to beginners, hobbyists, exam candidates, and aspiring performers.
What you’ll learn in piano lessons
Lessons focus on technique, rhythm, reading, ear training, and musical expression. Teachers create progressive plans so you consistently improve week-to-week.
Online vs in-person piano lessons
Online lessons are effective for repertoire, theory and technique when recorded materials and clear audio/video setup are used. In-person lessons offer direct physical guidance and instrument-specific coaching.
A simple learning path for piano
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Develop posture, hand position, basic sight-reading, simple scales and arpeggios, and a practice routine that builds consistent progress.
Expand technique with scales, arpeggios and exercises; learn pieces across styles and build expressive playing and musicality.
Refine interpretation, explore improvisation or accompaniment, and prepare confidently for exams, recitals, or studio sessions.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- A reliable upright or digital piano with weighted keys is ideal — full-size 88-key preferred.
- Piano bench at the correct height helps maintain relaxed posture and technique.
- A metronome and a simple practice plan (20–40 minutes daily) yield far better results than occasional long sessions.
