I am a professional musician offering high quality tuition in electric bass, double bass, and guitar. Specialising in jazz and improvisation, but with 28 years’ playing experience spanning everything from death metal to world music, I’ve been teaching and helping students reach their potential since 2009. Shoi has been playing the guitar for 25 years and holds a Higher Diploma in Music Performance from the ICMP. He has recorded a number of albums and toured across Europe and Asia. He has been teaching since 2007 with his private teaching business and his peripatetic teaching in schools. Shoi prides himself in inspiring young musicians to hone their skills but also develop their musical sensibility by exposing them to a wide range of music. With over 60 students at his teaching studio in Ruislip. His students range in age of 5 to 55. He has a successful track record in preparing his pupils for their grading exams Debut to Grade 8 with a vast number obtaining Merits and above. Ahead of exams Shoi will conduct mock tests to prepare pupils to the rigour of a Rockschool examination. Shoi focuses his teaching on technique, theory & improvisation whilst covering a wide range of styles. DBS checked. Shoi has also tutored children for the Musical Aptitude Test (MAT) for Grammar school entry examination. Every year Shoi hosts a week long summer workshop with children of different levels where the young aspiring musicians are tasked with learning a full tune in one week. The layout of the course is a group lesson where Shoi demonstrates and teaches parts of the chosen song each day. The second part of the lesson is a live performance workshop where the children perform parts of the song with a drummer and bass player to create a real band experience. During the live performance workshop Shoi provides feedback on how to perform the song better and how to work with other band members. Shoi has also been working with the Hillingdon Music Service since 2015 as a peripatetic music teacher. He currently conducts guitar lessons in six schools within the borough and host rock and pop ensemble during the holidays. Qualifications: Higher Diploma in Comtemporary Music (ICMP)
