Whether you are a beginner looking to explore music for the first time or a more advanced student aiming to refine your violin skills, my lessons are tailored to bring out your very best.
Classical Violin
Classical music forms the foundation of many violin skills, and I absolutely love teaching this genre to my students. From the works of Vivaldi to Mozart or Beethoven, learning classical pieces not only enhances your technique but also deepens your understanding of music theory. For those aiming for professional goals, mastering classical music is often a must. My sessions ensure a steady progression suited to your pace.
Pop and Contemporary Violin
For students interested in contemporary styles, the violin fits right in! Whether you want to play alongside guitar and piano or perform pop covers, I guide you in interpreting modern pieces while keeping violin teaching dynamic and fun. If you're in Kensington or attending online, I can help you bring your favourite songs to life on the violin.
Jazz and Improvisation
Jazz offers a unique challenge for violinists, encouraging creativity and spontaneity. During our lessons, we’ll explore how to use the violin to improvise, understand key jazz techniques, and develop a deeper appreciation of musical styles. Even children and beginners can begin appreciating jazz with beginner-friendly pieces and structured guidance.
Folk and Traditional Music
Violin students in the UK and beyond often express interest in folk and traditional music. Whether it’s Irish reels, Scottish jigs, or other traditional styles, this genre is vibrant and full of energy. I am always excited to include these dynamic compositions in lessons, helping students connect with cultural roots or discover something new.
Film Scores and Beyond
The violin shines in cinematic pieces, and I can help you recreate iconic soundtracks that inspire you! Film scores incorporate a range of techniques, and through these lessons, you’ll build versatility that adds depth to your violin skills.

Music Lessons to Improve Playing Technique
As a qualified teacher, I focus on helping my students develop a strong foundation in fundamental techniques while also exploring advanced playing skills. Whether you're a beginner or already experienced, I customise my lessons to suit your unique goals and level.
Bowing Techniques
Proper bowing is at the heart of beautiful violin playing. I teach a variety of bowing techniques, including legato for smooth connections, staccato for crisp notes, and spiccato for that light, bouncing quality. These are not only critical for classical works but can also be applied to other styles you’re interested in exploring. My approach ensures you gain control and confidence in your bowing arm, progressing steadily with precision and ease.
Finger Placement and Intonation
Accurate finger placement is another essential skill I emphasise. Together, we'll work on intonation exercises that will help train your ears and fingers for impeccable pitch. I also introduce music theory concepts during this process to deepen your understanding of the violin and how it connects within ensembles like piano and viola in various genres.
Vibrato and Dynamics
For those students interested in advanced techniques, learning vibrato and controlling dynamics can really bring emotional depth to your playing. These refined skills take practice, but I've helped many students in Kensington and beyond master them through clear, step-by-step instruction. It’s a rewarding challenge, and I’ll guide you through each stage.
