I’ve been a musician, ever since I picked up an old boxwood clarinet at the tender age of 6 and started playing a tune on it. I played in orchestras and wind bands, and by the time I was 14, I had passed my Grade 8 Associated Board practical exam. When I left school, I discovered the saxophone and fell in love with the sound, so I bought one and began playing in a folk-rock band. From here on, I played in a variety of bands; jazz, funk, comedy, folk and pop – I found I liked the variety. I also passed my Grade 8 Jazz practical exam with honours in 1999. I also started playing the flute in a folk band and discovered I love playing this instrument too. I began peripatetic teaching in schools back in 2000 and have been doing this on and off in a part-time capacity ever since and many of my pupils have passed practical and theory grade exams. I have also had many private pupils along the way. I have now started online tutoring, a new thing for me, but I have found it to be fun and effective. I am based in Suffolk, near Ipswich if anyone prefers in person. Music Qualifications & Achievements: BA honours in Music Grade 8 clarinet Grade 8 Jazz sax Recorded several CD’s I began by teaching friends, then found I really enjoyed it, so began working in schools.
About Saxophone lessons Ipswich
Ipswich has a steady music scene, and saxophone teachers here offer practical, results-focused tuition for students of all ages. Whether you're learning for personal enjoyment, working toward grade exams, or hoping to join a local band, Ipswich teachers structure lessons to match your aims. Beginners start with tone production, basic fingering, and simple melodies. Intermediate students refine technique, explore improvisation, and build repertoire. Advanced players tackle complex pieces, audition preparation, or stylistic nuances. Many Ipswich teachers balance classical training with experience in jazz, funk, or contemporary music. This means lessons can be flexible — if you're more interested in playing chart hits than classical études, that's absolutely fine. Lesson formats vary: some teachers run home studios in Ipswich and surrounding villages, others travel to students, and many offer online tuition. Consistency matters more than location, so choose the format that fits your routine. Ipswich also has community wind bands and jazz groups where learners can develop ensemble skills. Teachers often know these networks and can suggest groups when you're ready to play with others. Ready to start? Browse teacher profiles and get in touch to discuss availability and approach.
