About

Mike Yip is an experienced music educator, composer and performer. Coming from a strong Jazz and Improvisation background, he is also proficient in folk, pop, rock, blues, and funk music.

Having giving lessons to students at various levels for over 20 years, Mike understands the process of learning. He captures and sustains students’ motivation by tailoring lessons for each individual to meet their needs. He also helps students to build up confidence by encouraging them to perform in public and taking examinations. He is familiar with the syllabus of Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop examinations.

On top of his guitar teaching, Mike lectured in various universities in Hong Kong before his relocation to Northern Ireland in 2021. He posses a master degree (M.Phil) in music composition from The University of Hong Kong, and a grade 8 guitar certificate with distinction from Rockschool. He also offers lessons at the Ulster College of Music in Belfast.

Cancelation & Rescheduling Policy

SCHEDULING

  • The Teacher will provide an agreed-upon schedule of lessons, including dates and times, before the 1st of each month or prior to the commencement of lessons.
  • Lesson dates and times may be adjusted if both the Teacher and Student/Guardian agree. Holidays and vacation days will be planned into the schedule at the beginning of each month, and no charges will apply if a lesson falls on one of these days.
  • Flexible scheduling options are available to accommodate busy adult learners. While lessons can be booked weekly, priority will be given to students on a regular schedule.

TUITION & PAYPMENT

  • Tuition is payable in advance, either before or on the 1st of each month, or at the first lesson if paying by cash. Accepted payment methods include: Cash at lesson / Bank Transfer

CANCELLATION

  • Lesson times are standing appointments, with a student’s lesson time exclusively reserved for them each week. It is the student’s responsibility to attend.
  • If you anticipate an absence, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance by whatsapp / text messages.
  • If a cancellation is due to a scheduling conflict or mild illness, switching to a remote lesson is an option to maintain your lesson time and avoid missing a session.
  • Lessons canceled with more than 24 hours’ notice will be rescheduled if mutually agreeable availability can be found. However, the Teacher cannot guarantee availability. Please note that only one lesson can be canceled and rescheduled per month.
  • If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, you will be charged the lesson fee. Students who consistently cancel at short notice risk losing their reserved time slot in the studio.
