About Jasmine Whalley

My name is Jasmine Whalley and I’m a professional saxophonist and full time musician and recording artist. I have been playing saxophone for 16 years and flute for 14 years. I grew up in Leeds, where I studied for my degree in Jazz Performance (2015 – 2018). Whilst studying, I also began working as a freelance musician. This entailed picking up local gigs, performing with function bands at weddings and corporate events, and teaching. During this time I also set up my own band and started writing and releasing my own music. When I graduated, I continued teaching private one to one lessons, whilst pursuing a career as a recording artist.

In 2020, I was lucky enough to get signed to a record label called Gondwana Records and in 2022 I released my debut album with them under the pseudonym, entitled ‘Horizons’. I have since released two more albums on Gondwana and have toured with my band around the UK, Europe, South Africa and China.

In 2023, I moved to London to continue perusing my career as a recording artist.

I have experience teaching saxophone t0 students of varying ages and abilities, from complete beginner to intermediate. I can also teach beginner flute and beginner/intermediate composition (I use Sibelius). Although I specialise in Jazz, I am also able to teach other genres such as classical and pop.

My goal is to teach lessons that are fun and inspiring. In my opinion, playing an instrument should always be enjoyable and if you’re having fun you are going to get the most out of learning. Since I began teaching in 2017, I have always made sure to listen to students carefully and make sure the lessons are tailored to their musical interests and goals. I am also open to teaching grades if this is something you would like to pursue, but it’s not compulsory.

I am based in West Norwood and can teach from home, but I am also happy to travel. I can also offer lessons over zoom.
