James Burwell

James teaches to all ages and abilities. Lessons are usually structured around ABRSM or Rockschool syllabuses and aim to encourage student goal-setting. Students are required to provide their own instrument and learning materials.

Lessons focus on:

Technique – Breathing, Tonguing/Slurring, Tone/Sound
Scales (and Modes if doing Jazz)
Music Theory
Rhythm (and Improvising Exercises if doing Jazz)
Performance Skills
Repertoire Development
How to Practise/Warm Up

James Burwell prides himself on being a professional, dedicated teacher with a kind, empathetic nature. He has taught both children and adults privately for several years and always ensures his lessons are fun, engaging and tutored around individual learning needs and pace of learning. It is vital that students feel confident and comfortable within the teaching environment and are allowed to make mistakes in order to progress. James is also proficient at tutoring ABRSM Music Theory, and integrates elements into all instrumental lessons.

RSL Drums – Grade 8 (Distinction),

ABRSM Alto Sax – Grade 8 (Distinction),

ABRSM Clarinet – Grade 8 (Merit),

ABRSM Music Theory – Grade 8
