About James Armstrong
Is this your first time picking up a bass? Are you struggling with a specific technique? Or are you a music student who needs assistance with a project? Say no more! Let’s work on it together.
Its important that everyone has access to musical education. Music moves us, grounds us, inspires us, and develops us as social, creative little creatures. Given my passion to perform and make music, I am driven to pass on my experience as a bass player and as a musician. Though patience and tailored lesson planning, I will structure your tuition to your needs
I have 10 years performing experience across the UK. I started out in function and in originals bands. Now I perform across the UK whether it be in a theatre pit, orchestra or as a freelance bassist. I currently perform regularly for 2 function/corporate wedding bands, a vintage swing ensemble, principal double bass for the Northern Musical Theatre Orchestra, tutti double bass with the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra, and various local operatic performing societies.
You never stop learning, even with my performing experience and a Bachelor in Music, I am still developing, making mistakes, and ultimately continuing to perfect my craft. With my extensive experience, there’s no linear path to learning bass or music, as it important to recognise that everyone has their own style of learning. If you just want to rock out, learn to read TAB, and enjoy music as a hobby, that’s great! alternatively, you want to develop yourself as a pit orchestral musician, sight reading, and enjoying the thrill of being part of a production. After teaching guitar & ukulele with Rattle&Roll in primary schools, and developing a few friend’s journey to picking their first instruments up (still going!), I have decided to take my tutoring to the next level with you. I am that dedicated bass tutor that will push you to that next level.
