About Anton Mizonov
Hi everyone!
My name is Anton Mizonov. I currently live in Batumi, Georgia, where I teach guitar, ukulele, and drums to a wonderful community of Russian, Belarusian, and Ukrainian expats.
Let me start with a bit about my background. As someone with plenty of experience playing in diverse rock bands (of varying degrees of “unsuccessfulness”), I’ve worn many hats—guitarist, ukulele player, and even band leader. While some bands had their own driving forces, in two of them, I was the one pushing things forward. This journey has taught me a lot about what makes a rock band work and, more importantly, what doesn’t.
That said, I firmly believe that “experience” alone doesn’t guarantee expertise. It’s easy to make the same textbook mistakes for years without improving. However, being immersed in this world has given me valuable insights into what musicians can do (or avoid doing) to make their band sound great.
Now, let’s talk about teaching!
I’m a guitar teacher. My focus isn’t on classical guitar but on something equally cherished: helping people learn to sing while accompanying themselves on the guitar. I teach basic strumming patterns, foundational chords, and, crucially, how to transition seamlessly between them. I’ve noticed that while many teachers focus on teaching chords (which is essential!), they often overlook the importance of smooth transitions. Without those, how can anyone truly play a song? My lessons prioritize these nuances to help students confidently play their favorite tunes.
I’m a ukulele teacher. Although the ukulele is similar to the guitar, a common misconception is that it’s an “easy and kid-friendly instrument”. In reality, pressing the strings to the fretboard can hurt just as much as on a guitar, and mastering clean strumming patterns and smooth chord transitions takes real effort. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to see students move from “I can’t do this!” to “I nailed it!” Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, I can guide you on this journey.
I’m also a drum teacher. Unlike guitar, which I’ve played my whole life, I only started playing drums after moving to Georgia. My drumming journey began almost accidentally—during a ukulele lesson, I sat at a drum kit to entertain a student, playing a simple groove to create a “band” vibe. We loved the result, and I shared a clip on Instagram. A few days later, someone messaged me asking if I taught drums. At first, I said no, but their persistence changed my mind. That’s how I began teaching drums to kids, and while I consider myself a beginner drummer, I work hard to improve whenever I can.
Why choose me?
My teaching approach is simple: it’s not about showing off my skills but inspiring confidence in my students. On Instagram, you’ll see clips of my students—both kids and adults—playing music. Unlike many teachers who showcase their own talent (sometimes intimidating potential learners), I focus on celebrating my students’ progress. My goal is to make learning music approachable, fun, and rewarding.
Thank you for reading! I’d be delighted to help you start or continue your musical journey.
