I have been utterly invested in music since my early adolescence, starting out initially as a drummer and then moving into a study of harmony and composition during my years studying at a contemporary music academy developed my love for piano playing. I am active as a touring and session musician, having toured the world playing with various acts and being recognised for my abilities as a composer in 2017 when an album I composed was charted at #6 and #10 respectively on Billboard’s hard rock and new artist charts. I have been invested in teaching music for roughly three years now. My approach is based on an integrated understanding of music theory designed to equip my students with a deep understanding not only of the science of harmony but of the science of learning how to acquire new skills, informed by a wealth of modern discovery and understanding. This allows my students to be able to think musically and develop intuition so that they can be free to define their own personal relationship with music. Music Qualifications & Achievements: University – ACM – Drum Performance – Higher Diploma Soar Valley Music School – Music Performance – BTEC Distinction Composed works achieving #6 international hard rock charts – 2017
I have a vast array of musical experience across different instruments as well as musical theory, composition and analysis. While I'm not a professional level performer on all the instruments I play, I'm a constant learner myself and put this at the heart of my teaching. I like to make learning fun and enjoyable and try to be as flexible as I can be with what I teach. I tend to anchor my teaching around the RSL or ABRSM grade structures, but students always have a choice as to whether they want to pursue grades or not. I am also happy to work outside of the syllabus, just let me know what piece you'd like to work on and I'll do my best to support you! I'm very happy to travel to you for lessons. I live in a terraced house, so it can be tricky to teach at home with a five year old running around, but if you need to come to me, let me know and I'm sure we can sort something out.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I am an experienced peripatetic teacher and classroom teacher for over 20 years. I have experience in working at different schools, i.e. a post-16 establishment, a high achieving academy, an independent school and a state school in Coventry. My roles within all of these establishments have been Music Teacher, Head of Music/ Lead Teacher in Music and currently Head of Faculty (Creative Arts which includes Music, Performance/ Dance, Media and Art) When working as a peripatetic teacher I have taught my two main instruments; piano and violin as well music theory, composition and GCSE at Edexcel, Educas and AQA and BTEC. I have also worked with a wide range of students from 04 years old to over 75 years old and have focused on playing for fun, playing for exams or a hybrid of both. I like to establish a strong, trusting working relationship with students (and parents) by knowing how to motivate students in terms of what they want to learn and how they learn. This has come from my experience as a peripatetic teacher but also through my teaching training (PGCE at post-16 and GTP) and more recently my NQPLT (National Qualification in Leading Teacher). At my current school I am also a Lead Teacher in the 6 Principles of Great Teacher where I often showcase Modelling, Explaining, Practicing, Questioning, Challenging and Feedback in the Faculty and to other trainee classroom teachers. I like to consider what the student wants and am happy to focus on what is best for the student. I also want to focus on the holistic benefits of learning an instrument such as increasing confidence, discipline in practice and other skills involved in learning an instrument.

Piano lessons: what to expect
Great piano lessons combine structured technical development with repertoire that inspires you. Search by location to find local teachers for in-person tuition, or choose online lessons to access specialist tutors in your chosen style.
Piano suits learners of all ages — children, teens, adults and returning players. Lessons can be tailored to beginners, hobbyists, exam candidates, and aspiring performers.
Lessons focus on technique, rhythm, reading, ear training, and musical expression. Teachers create progressive plans so you consistently improve week-to-week.
Online lessons are effective for repertoire, theory and technique when recorded materials and clear audio/video setup are used. In-person lessons offer direct physical guidance and instrument-specific coaching.
A simple learning path for piano
A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.
Develop posture, hand position, basic sight-reading, simple scales and arpeggios, and a practice routine that builds consistent progress.
Expand technique with scales, arpeggios and exercises; learn pieces across styles and build expressive playing and musicality.
Refine interpretation, explore improvisation or accompaniment, and prepare confidently for exams, recitals, or studio sessions.
Getting started: what you need
Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.
- A reliable upright or digital piano with weighted keys is ideal — full-size 88-key preferred.
- Piano bench at the correct height helps maintain relaxed posture and technique.
- A metronome and a simple practice plan (20–40 minutes daily) yield far better results than occasional long sessions.
