As an experienced music teacher, I tailor each lesson to suit your needs, helping you achieve great progress no matter your starting point.

What to Expect

Each session includes a mix of practical violin playing and music education. I emphasise the importance of understanding music theory alongside technique, as it’s the foundation of playing any instrument, whether violin, guitar, piano, or flute. For beginners, we’ll work on the basics like holding the violin correctly, bowing techniques, and reading music. Advanced players will focus on mastering styles, refining technique, and exploring different genres.

All Ages

For children and young students, I aim to make lessons fun and educational. Learning an instrument should be an inspiring experience that builds confidence and creativity. For adults, it’s never too late to pick up the violin or develop your skills further—I’ll ensure you feel supported every step of the way.

Other Instruments

I can also incorporate aspects of other instruments, including piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. Whether your goal is to join a band, perform solo, or develop your musical skills for personal enjoyment, my lessons focus on helping you truly connect with the music and bring out your unique style.

Learn to Apply Music Theory to Your Playing

As a violin teacher, I often emphasise the importance of music theory in my lessons. Music theory serves as the foundation for understanding how music works, and it’s especially valuable for violin students who want to play with confidence and expression. Whether you're a beginner or advancing in your skills, understanding music theory helps you decode sheet music, develop a deeper sense of rhythm, and grasp key signatures, which are essential for mastering the violin.

Connecting Music Theory to Playing

Learning to play the violin is much more than just moving a bow across strings. With proper music tuition, you'll gain the tools to connect theoretical knowledge with practice. For example, something as simple as knowing scales or chords can guide you in playing with better intonation and dynamics. I strive to teach my students in Rochdale and beyond how to apply these concepts in an approachable way, whether during in-person or online music lessons.

Enhancing Your Musical Journey

Music theory isn’t just for violin players—it greatly benefits students of the piano, guitar, saxophone, flute, or even the clarinet and viola! Every quality music teacher or tutor will tell you that understanding theory elevates your playing, regardless of the instrument. It's a valuable skill for beginners and advanced learners alike, as it enriches comprehension and supports seamless transitions between pieces.

If you're searching for experienced music teachers in Rochdale, or need guidance with online violin or other instrumental lessons, I’d love to bring my passion for teaching and commitment to fostering quality knowledge to your musical practice. Together, we can make music theory an integral, enjoyable part of your learning process.

Learn & All Genres & Styles on the Violin

Classical Music

When it comes to learning the violin, classical music often steals the spotlight. I love teaching students how to master timeless pieces from composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. These works not only help you develop essential violin skills but also lay the foundation for a strong technical background. Whether you're in Rochdale or learning online, I ensure the process is tailored, enjoyable, and focused on your progress.

Folk and Traditional Styles

Folk music offers an entirely different charm and energy. From lively Irish jigs to soulful Scottish ballads, playing folk on the violin can feel incredibly rewarding. I've worked with students to explore these rich traditions, incorporating expressive techniques and improvisation that truly bring these melodies to life.

Jazz and Blues

For those who love experimenting with style, jazz and blues on the violin can be such a fun challenge. This genre encourages creative expression and improvisation. As your teacher, I’ll help you blend technique with freedom, so you can play with confidence and authenticity. Whether paired with a saxophone, piano, or clarinet, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the harmonious interplay of instruments.

Contemporary and Pop

Violin in pop and contemporary music is becoming more popular—and I’m here to show you how versatile this instrument can be! From playing your favorite modern tracks to accompanying piano, guitar, or even flute arrangements, I’ll guide you in making recognisable tunes shine. Lessons are designed to suit all ages and skill levels for an enjoyable music experience.

Film and Game Music

Who doesn’t adore the profound emotions of film scores or the nostalgia of game music? I teach students to play iconic pieces from both genres, bringing drama and excitement into your practice sessions. Online or in-person in Rochdale, I'll help you learn how to breathe life into these pieces with expressive bowing and dynamic variations.

Exploring these genres is all about finding what inspires and excites you. My goal as your tutor is to create a space where learning remains enjoyable, no matter what music style you choose. Whether it's violin, guitar, flute, saxophone, or clarinet that you're focusing on, I’m here to help you discover your potential and love for playing every note!
