Each of my private trumpet lessons is customised to fit your learning style and goals. For beginners, we’ll focus on foundational skills such as understanding the history of the trumpet, basic music theory, and building a great sound. Advanced students can explore styles in-depth, from jazz and classical to big band and brass ensembles. We’ll work on more intricate techniques such as music production, music technology, and even preparing for performances with brass instruments like the flugel horn or cornet.

I believe in teaching the whole musician. Alongside trumpet techniques, my lessons include elements of music theory, breathing techniques, and even insights into genres like classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. I also provide lessons on related instruments, such as the French horn and piano, for those interested in broadening their skills. My role as a music specialist teacher and my experience as a London musician give me an in-depth understanding of various musical paths.

Improve Music Theory with London Trumpet Tutors
As a trumpet teacher, I often emphasise the importance of music theory in my lessons—whether you're taking beginner trumpet lessons in London or you're an advanced student looking to refine your skills. Understanding music theory isn't just about reading notes; it's about truly connecting with the music you play and unlocking your potential as a musician.
Music theory helps you grasp the structure of a piece, from chord progressions to key signatures, giving you a strong foundation no matter your preferred style. Whether you're inspired by jazz, classical, or modern brass band music, having a solid theoretical background allows you to explore and interpret pieces with confidence. For students tackling styles like jazz, for example, understanding scales and improvisation theory is essential for making real progress.
Integrating Music Theory into Lessons
When you learn with me, I weave music theory into trumpet lessons naturally, showing how it directly applies to your playing. Beginner trumpet lessons in London, I often include learning how to read sheet music, understanding rhythm, and mastering scales. For more advanced students, we might focus on concepts like chord structures, modes, and creating smooth transitions in improvisation. Theory doesn’t need to feel abstract—I believe in making it practical so that you can hear and feel the results in your sound.
Music theory also connects to other essential skills such as breathing techniques and tone production. For example, understanding dynamics and phrasing in a piece will naturally prompt you to make better use of your breathing, leading to a richer, fuller sound. This approach helps you mature as a trumpet player, even if you're exploring related instruments like the flugel horn, cornet, or even the French horn.

Improving Sound Control with Breathing Techniques
A great teacher knows that proper breathing is the foundation of playing any brass instrument, and this is an area I focus on extensively. Breathing exercises are key to ensuring stability and endurance—whether you’re performing in an ensemble or tackling a demanding solo piece.
