Purpose

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from Students and Forum Members within the Music Teacher Ltd platform. Adherence to these standards is essential for maintaining a positive, respectful, and effective learning and discussion environment.

Interpretation

MUSIC TEACHER LTD: MUSIC TEACHER LTD (RSL Group Holdings, Harlequin House, 7 High Street, Teddington, England, TW11 8EE. Registered in England and Wales. Company Registration Number: 12549278).

WEBSITE: The domain names associated with MusicTeacher.com, including its platform and teacher database.

STUDENT: An individual, including a parent or guardian seeking lessons on behalf of a minor, who uses the Music Teacher Ltd platform to explore, arrange, or participate in music lessons. A Student may actively take lessons, be in the process of selecting a Teacher or Music School, or simply be browsing options without having yet commenced lessons. In this context, “Student” refers to any person or their representative who engages with the platform for the purpose of finding, scheduling, or enquiring about musical instruction from a Teacher or Music School listed on the Website.

FORUM MEMBER: An individual who participates in the discussion forums available on the Website but is not actively seeking to arrange a Lesson with a Teacher or a Music School.

TEACHER: An individual who subscribes to the Website for membership and the opportunity to be referred students. A Teacher typically offers one-on-one or group lessons in one or more Instruments. The Teacher is responsible for providing instruction during Lesson and adhering to the terms set forth by Music Teacher Ltd.

MUSIC SCHOOL: An organisation or entity, whether a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or other legal entity, that subscribes to the Website and provides music instruction through employed or contracted Teachers. A Music School may manage multiple instructors, offer a range of Instruments, and provide various lesson types, including one-on-one, group lessons, and specialised programs. The Music School is responsible for managing its teaching staff, and ensuring the quality and consistency of the Lessons provided through its platform membership.

LESSON: Any period of tuition provided by a Teacher or Music School to a Student.

INSTRUMENT: Any musical instrument, including but not limited to guitar, piano, drums, voice, ableton live, accordion, bandoneon, banjo, baritone, bass, bassoon, cajon, cello, clarinet, composition, conducting, cornet, cuatro, daf, djembe, double bass, euphonium, flugel horn, flute, french horn, garageband, handpan, harmonica, harmonium, harp, keyboard, kora, logic pro x, mandolin, marimba, music history, music production, music theory, oboe, organ, percussion, piccolo, quena, recorder, saxophone, setar, sitar, singing, songwriting, sound engineering, synthesiser, tabla, tenor horn, trombone, trumpet, tuba, ukulele, viola, violin, used by a Teacher or Music School when providing instruction during a Lesson.

  1. GENERAL PRINCIPLES
    1. Respect: Treat all teachers, fellow students, and forum members with respect and courtesy. Foster an inclusive and supportive environment by engaging in constructive and respectful communication.
    2. Integrity: Engage honestly in all interactions on the platform. This includes representing yourself truthfully in your profile, posts, and any communications.
    3. Responsibility: Approach your lessons and forum participation with responsibility. Be prepared, punctual, and committed to your learning journey.
  2. STUDENT CONDUCT
    1. Lesson Preparation and Participation
      1. Preparation: Come to lessons prepared, having practised and reviewed any assigned materials. Take an active role in your learning.
      2. Punctuality: Attend all lessons on time. If you need to reschedule, notify your teacher as early as possible.
      3. Engagement: Be attentive and engaged during lessons. Follow your teacher’s instructions and complete any assignments or practice tasks given.
    2. Respect for the Learning Environment
      1. Positive Interaction: Maintain a positive attitude during lessons. Refrain from disruptive behaviour and be respectful of your teacher’s efforts to help you learn.
      2. Appropriate Conduct: Conduct yourself appropriately during lessons, whether in-person or online. Behave in a manner that is conducive to learning.
      3. Safeguarding: If you are a minor or a vulnerable adult, ensure that a parent or guardian is aware of your lessons and can observe if necessary. Report any behaviour from a teacher that makes you uncomfortable.
    3. Communication with Teachers
      1. Clear Communication: Communicate clearly and respectfully with your teacher. Notify them in advance if you have any specific needs or concerns regarding your lessons.
      2. Boundaries: Maintain appropriate and respectful communication with your teacher.
      3. Confidentiality: Respect your teacher’s privacy and do not share their personal details or communications without their explicit consent.
    4. Financial Responsibilities
      1. Timely Payments: Ensure that all lesson fees are paid on time according to the agreed-upon payment terms. If you are unable to make a payment, communicate this to your teacher promptly to discuss possible solutions.
      2. Adherence to Policies: Follow your teacher’s cancellation, refund, and payment policies. Understand that failure to comply with these policies may result in the suspension or termination of your lessons.
  3. FORUM CONDUCT
    1. Respectful Participation
      1. Constructive Communication: Participate in forum discussions constructively. Share your opinions, experiences, and questions in a way that contributes to the learning and support of others.
      2. Respect for Others: Do not engage in name-calling, insults, or any form of harassment. Respect differing opinions and be mindful of your tone when communicating.
    2. Appropriate Content
      1. Relevant Posts: Ensure that your posts are relevant to the topic of discussion and the purpose of the forum. Avoid spamming, off-topic posts, or advertising.
      2. Language and Conduct: Use appropriate language in all forum communications. Avoid profanity, offensive remarks, or any content that could be deemed inappropriate or harmful.
      3. Privacy and Confidentiality: Do not share personal details or private communications of other members without their consent. Respect the confidentiality of others.
  4. ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
    1. Fair Treatment: Treat all teachers, students and forum members equally, without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
    2. Prohibition of Inappropriate Relationships: Maintain strictly professional relationships with teachers. Any romantic, intimate, or sexual relationships with teachers are strictly prohibited, regardless of the student’s or teacher’s age.
    3. Reporting Inappropriate Behaviour: If you encounter or witness any inappropriate behaviour, report it immediately to Music Teacher Ltd through the platform’s support system or via email at info@musicteacher.com.
  5. SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION
    1. Safeguarding Others: Be mindful of the safety and well-being of others, especially minors and vulnerable adults, if you are arranging lessons on their behalf. Report any concerns immediately.
    2. Monitoring Interactions: When participating in online lessons, ensure that your interactions are visible to others if necessary. Encourage a parent or guardian to be nearby during in-person or online sessions if you are a minor.
    3. Age Requirement: All users of the website must be over 18 years of age. If you are a minor, please have your parent or guardian use the platform to communicate with your teacher and arrange lessons on your behalf.
  6. DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
    1. Consequences of Breach
      1. Enforcement: Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including warnings, suspension, or removal from the platform.
      2. Investigation: Music Teacher Ltd will investigate any reported breaches and take appropriate action based on the severity of the breach.
  7. REPORTING AND FEEDBACK
    1. Reporting Concerns
      1. Reporting Misconduct: Any concerns regarding breaches of this Code of Conduct should be reported to Music Teacher Ltd via the platform’s support system or by email at info@musicteacher.com. All reports will be handled confidentially.
    2. Feedback Mechanism
      1. Continuous Improvement: Music Teacher Ltd encourages feedback from students and forum members to improve the platform. Feedback can be provided via the Help Centre or by contacting Music Teacher Ltd directly.

Acknowledgment

By using the Music Teacher Ltd platform as a Student or Forum Member, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Compliance with these standards is essential to maintaining a respectful and effective learning environment for all members.

These terms and conditions should be read in conjunction with the Website’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy. In the event of a conflict between this Code of Conduct and the Terms of Service, the provisions of the Terms of Service shall prevail.
