Hello! I’m Zim He, a professional violin teacher and performer based in Sydney, Australia. I teach violin to children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to advanced students. Whether your goal is to learn violin for enjoyment, prepare for AMEB or ABRSM examinations, improve your technique, develop performance skills, or pursue music more seriously, I aim to provide structured, personalised and enjoyable lessons for every student.

I began studying the violin at the age of four under Professor Peng Song of Wuhan Conservatory of Music. In 2004, I was admitted to the Primary School affiliated with Wuhan Conservatory of Music, where I received intensive and systematic classical violin training from an early age.

After completing my primary education, I had the opportunity to study with the late Professor Lin Yaoji, one of China’s most respected violin educators. His teaching introduced me to advanced international approaches to violin technique, musical interpretation and performance. During my studies, I performed in several solo concerts at Wuhan Conservatory of Music, including performances at the Bianzhong and Huangzhong Concert Halls.

In 2012, I was awarded a first-class scholarship to study Music Performance at Western Michigan University in the United States. There, I studied violin with Professor Renata Knific, former head of the Strings Department, and further developed my understanding of Western classical music, performance practice and professional violin technique. I also performed with the USO Symphony Orchestra and participated in performances and tours across the United States.

After returning to China in 2018, I focused increasingly on violin education and teaching. Over the years, I have worked with students of different ages and levels and have developed a teaching approach that combines strong technical foundations with practical, easy-to-understand explanations.

My teaching philosophy is simple: students should learn correct technique, but they should also understand why they are doing something. I believe violin lessons should be systematic, patient and encouraging. I often explain technical and musical concepts using everyday examples so that students can understand them clearly rather than simply memorising instructions.

For younger students, I focus on building a strong foundation in posture, bowing, intonation, rhythm, sight-reading and musicality while keeping lessons engaging and motivating. For intermediate and advanced students, I place greater emphasis on tone production, bow control, phrasing, interpretation, technical development and performance confidence. I also provide structured preparation for AMEB and ABRSM violin examinations, auditions, competitions and performances.

My students have received awards including First Prize and Second Prize in the Baihua Award, Gold and Silver Awards at the Hubei Overseas Chinese Youth Cultural Festival International Youth Performance, and Second Prize in the Hubei Yangtze Piano Cup Youth Music Competition.

I have also been recognised as an Excellent Instructor in the 5th China Youth Violin Concerto Competition, an Excellent Instructor at the 2020 Baihua Award National Art Specialty Conference (Hubei Division), and an Excellent Teacher for the 2024 Wuhan Conservatory of Music Social Art Level Examination.

As a teacher, my goal is not simply to teach students how to play the notes. I want to help them develop confidence, musical understanding, discipline and a genuine appreciation for music. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to suit their age, experience, goals and learning pace.
