Stephen Ellam

I have been teaching guitar since 2006, and graduated from the Leeds College of Music with a degree in popular music in 2009, I also passed my PGCE in music education from Huddersfield University in 2011, I have experience teaching students as young as 7 up to those in their 60s.

Teaching has been my full time profession since 2010 and in that time I have taught literally hundreds of students, I have developed my own collection of teaching syllabuses ranging from Beginner courses to Advanced Rock schemes. The songs and activities in these schemes are designed to help you maintain progress and prevent you from getting ‘stuck in a rut’ like so many self-taught guitarists do.

I specialise in pop, rock, blues, funk & metal from the 1950s and up. I also teach acoustic guitar and have developed my own pop, folk and country syllabuses featuring strumming and fingerpicking.

The songs you will learn will be tailored to your interests whenever possible, whether you are a complete beginner that wants to play your favourite songs, a music student hoping to achieve academically or an advanced guitarist looking to improve.

Everything we will do in lesson will be based on real music, over the years I have created backing tracks, written music and transcribed literally thousands of songs for my students so that every riff, song or solo that you learn will allow you to then move onto another musical activity.

Lessons can be weekly, fortnightly or to suit the student. Every student is different and we can discuss what lesson frequency works best for you.
