Phil Mayers

I’m a professional musician, guitar tutor based in West London with over 37 years playing experience, 9 years of teaching in schools and privately both online and in person with a degree in Popular Music and Performance.

As well as tutoring I also write, produce and perform music often supporting artists on Acoustic Guitar.

Originally self-taught, I went on to study classical and jazz guitar and use my experiences as a student, teacher and performer to deliver personalised lessons to all ages, styles and levels of ability. Most of my students play for enjoyment so we work steadily towards building a repertoire of songs that you enjoy. I’m also happy to work towards guitar exams in both traditional and contemporary styles if you’d like to take that route, including Rockschool (RSL), ABRSM and Trinity.

I’ve been described as excellent, patient, thorough, personable, flexible, passionate, calm, friendly and reliable. My desire is to share my passion for music and get students playing what they want to play sooner by building a solid foundation of chords, scales, theory and overcoming obstacles whilst keeping the lessons engaging and fun!
