About Me & My Philosophy
I am an active double bass and electric bass player offering one-on-one, in-person lessons in South London for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate/aspiring to be advanced players.
First and foremost, my goal as a teacher is to figure out how to inspire you. I don’t follow rigid, traditional classical music models. Instead, I teach using a condensed, ear-led methodology that I designed from my own years of self-study and professional playing. My focus is on helping you build deep musical intuition, groove, fretboard fluency, and some practical theory by using your ears first.
My Background & Experience
My passion for sharing music comes directly from my own journey in the London music scene, where I have been deeply embedded since 2013. I learned the ropes in invaluable community spaces, including the jazz workshops at WAC Arts (Camden) under Vidal Montgomery, and as part of the Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Collective. Along the way, I’ve had the immense privilege of receiving mentorship from great bassists like Larry Bartley, Michael Janisch, Steve Watts etc, and of course my main mentors Vidal Montgomery and Gary Crosby. I’ve also been playing alongside hundreds of international pro musicians over the years.
Currently, I balanced my full-time work with gigging on the London scene, collaborating with artists like the renowned West African master griot Kadialy Kouyate American cellist Gary Washington.
What to Expect
Having recently returned to London full-time after a sabbatical, I am eager to reconnect with the local community through teaching. Whether you are picking up the bass for the very first time or you are an intermediate player looking to break out of a rut and understand jazz theory practically, I tailor every lesson to how you naturally process music.
I strictly teach in-person and one-on-one to ensure you get the focused, real-world guidance you need to find your own voice on the instrument.
