About Margot Carter

I have been teaching since completing my undergraduate degree…38 years ago….I have made my profession teaching piano, music theory and recorder and I love working with children and adults and watching them explore and develop a passion for music. I have and regularly do use many different resources including the UK exam boards there are exam boards that suit different people…some people really like face to face exams others prefer to do online exams, some people prefer to focus on classical music…others anime or early music. I find that my skills as a musician develop the more I teach because my students challenge my thinking and playing.

As a young graduate I then took my studies to education and did both a Cert.Ed. FE and a PGCE. Having worked for a while within the school system I returned to my passion and focused upon building up a private teaching studio. I am registered with the DBS update service so that I keep my registration up to date. I love watching my students progress from the beginning through to confident and skilled musicians.

After a break of about 30 years I returned to conservatoire study to complete my MA in performance and was so happy to pass this with a merit, at the outset I was worried that my long break from my own education would be a huge obstacle…instead it was something that gave me an entirely different perspective on the course.

Since then I have continued teaching and my local students are offered the opportunity to perform each year in the local Cathedral (in the autumn term). When appropriate I take students through the exam system and local music festivals. Some students prefer to not perform or take examinations I am happy with that as well.
